Hello Daniel. Great video. I learned a lot. I saw a video about 1 month ago. Since then. I have been researching these Electric Blue Acaras. I am starting to set up a 55G. I was going to move my Betta into. but was told not to... it would be too stressful for him. Okay. Now, I can set this up for the Electric Blue Acaras, instead. I have a Clean-up Crew that I can put in there with them. Then, learn what else to add over time. Thank you. Finding this video was perfect timing as I had just learned a few hours earlier while I was at the pet store not to move the Betta into that 55G, as it would be too stressful.

Hey Daniel hope you're keeping well. Love the videos and all the hard work mate. Just bought a few Sparkling Gourami. You ever kept them? Cracking little fish and really quirky habits...
@DanielKeepingFish2 жыл бұрын
Thanks very much Peter, it really is nice to read a comment like that. Yeah I've kept Sparkling Gourami. Lovely little fish. Feel like they're at their best in nicely planted tanks to make them feel comfortable with some floating plants too. Seems to make them feel more confident then when the light shining between them hits the fish just right it really reveals them as the stunning fish they are. Enjoy them bud, I have no doubt you will.

I didn't even think on the mask/superhero reference. Missed a trick there! I'm just giving them away for now, got lots of people nearby interested. I breed for interest to be honest not for profit but either way I'm feeling pretty rich with these guys. 😉

What substrate combo do you recommend for the Electric Blue Acaras? I did catch sand. What kind of sand? What layers of substrate works best with Sand being at the top, as well.
@DanielKeepingFish Жыл бұрын
Sand is a good option but gravel is fine too. Grave would be better for most plants if that's what you intend but you can grow them in sand too, just makes it a wee bit harder for the roots to penetrate. I don't like play sand because it compacts too much. Amy aquarium sand (I use Unipac silica sand) or some people use pool filter sand. You can use sand from a builder's yard but you need to make sure it's inert and doesn't have anything extra like lime in it. Basically I use a thin layer of Tropica clay based substrate to give the plants something to start feeding on then the gravel/sand. You can mix them if you want but generally better going with one or the other.
@gaynorowen2 жыл бұрын
Fabulous video, very informative. These are the next fish I plan on keeping, how many would you recommend for a 4ft 300 litre tank. I'm hoping I can keep at least 4, possibly with some Cryptoheros nanoluteus. 😊
@DanielKeepingFish2 жыл бұрын
Thanks very much. Yeah they're a great fish, definitely one of the nicest fish I've ever kept. I'd say you could keep three of four in a tank like that. The problem you may run into is they do get a bit territorial when they're breeding. They tend to prefer a flat rock in a guarded area so if you can give them a rock behind a bit of drift wood that is ideal and means the other fish can use the rest of the tank. If they try to breed in the middle of the tank they'll constantly try to guard that area which might be stressful for the other fish. I've never kept Convicts to know how they'd get on with the Acara but I've kept them with Rainbow Cichlids no problem.
@RayRoberts11 ай бұрын
Do you reckon they'll be alright with fully grown cardinals and rummies?

Daniel, I am back. The Covid thing upset all the transport I needed Also because of my age they put me under house arrest for 3 months. I was going to give my aquariums away but at the last minute, I change my mind and rebuild the tanks. Those Acara are beautiful. As soon as things opened up I went over to Stratford and bought some Conga tetras. I wonder they would mix with the Acara seems to be about the same size.
@DanielKeepingFish2 жыл бұрын
I'm so glad to hear from you Robert. I have worried about you several times past few weeks since I hadn't noticed you around but glad to hear you're okay. I don't want to say they'd definitely be a good mix never having kept them together. Congos I find to be quite timid but I haven't sound Acara to be aggressive at all. Territorial when breeding some what but that can be managed hey.

@DanielKeepingFish2 жыл бұрын
@@Fumango is it a big tank? If it is my top pick would be Denison Barbs. If it's a bit smaller I'd be going with Rummienose Tetra or Pentazola/five Banded Barbs. Just my suggestions of course, please do your own research into them but I have found them all to be great schoolers and generally peaceful with the other fish I have kept them with. 👍
@chrispalmer98022 жыл бұрын
What do you feed your corydoras and how do you get it to them with the electric blue acara in there?
@DanielKeepingFish2 жыл бұрын
So I feed different foods all the time. If it's just dried/pellets I tend to drop floating ones at one end of the tank then sinking pellets the other end once most of the fish are busy. To be fair though some of the floating food makes it's way the the bottom in the current and feeding frenzy. Live food I tend to place in front of the filter outlet so it gets everywhere in the tank. Frozen I defrost in some tank water then pour it in at different stages across the tank. Some of it gets snapped up higher up but loads of it gets to the bottom too. Most blanched vegetables tend to sink anyway then I use aquarium food clips to place some higher in the tank. Any that float I start with long stainless steel barbecue skewers to hold some down for the fish at the bottom of the tank.
@chrispalmer98022 жыл бұрын
The female is the smaller one with darker black on its head?
@DanielKeepingFish2 жыл бұрын
Yeah the female is the smaller of the two bud but both can show a range of colour at the front of the head. They appear to darken when breeding but also may be down to how they are feeling in terms of mood, sensitivy to water conditions, etc.

I had one of these guys in a pretty crowded 55 gallon tank and he decided to be a major dick to the biggest fish in the tank. A demon geophagus which was bigger than him. Constantly nipping up his fins and generally harassing the poor guy. Just put him in his new 55 gallon tank, with his only tankmate being a female green saum to breed with. Major upgrades and hopefully won't see any more aggression. Just know if this peaceful fish is acting aggressive, you've done something wrong.

It's a good point you make there right enough. I guess even a pussy cat can become a tiger if cornered hey.

Can they be with polar blue?
@DanielKeepingFish Жыл бұрын
I've never tried it but my experience of Polar Blues is that they can be a wee bit feisty. If either of the fish were going to be a problem I'd say it would be the Polars rather than the Acaras but then if the Acara are a decent enough size they can generally look after themselves.

Can I put 10 blood parrot and 10 blue acaras together?
@DanielKeepingFish2 жыл бұрын
Sounds like a very interesting combination. The Acara do get a bit territorial when breeding like most Cichlid but other than that and in a big enough tank I don't see why not. The only worry I'd have is the Acara are pretty enthusiastic eaters so they may out-compete the Parrots for food.
