So, Victor, what happened to NXU? Did you leave, did they sale the patents to WattEV, did NXU continued to drift off investors to keep their salaries going while selling megawatt patents to WattEV? The WattEV site looks awfully close to what NXU kept advertising they were going to do.

@@crilako Hi 👋 Yes I left, as they're "engaged in strategic alternatives". No patents sold or anything related (to my knowledge), as WattEV is focused on higher power charging and deployments focused on the heavy duty market. I don’t think anyone has a clue yet how revolutionary semi trailers with powered axles will be. It will make the truck safer and more stable on the highway and will all but eliminate chaining up in the mountains.
@4literv6
@4literv6 Ай бұрын
Well said! Allows for additional regen going down steep declines, BMW says over 40% gain in driving efficency on diesels it trialled them with. So ev semis could gain even more especially in mixed use city or traffic driving. Then it could allow for a 300 mile cheaper tesla semi to do 450-500! Opening up new opportunities for those who couldn't spend another 50k+for the top spec semi. Less weight to so more possible cargo carrying. Top tesla semi is 23,000# base is less at 21,000# Also it could push the 500 miler out to near 750-800 miles. Ad built in thin solar to the roof&eliminating diesel reefers=much cleaner quieter cooler air for everyone and cheaper cost of goods moved=cheaper products for consumers! Easier on drivers=win win win.👍🏻😎

Chaining up still matters. Trailers have had brakes forever yet chains are still necessary.
@Thunderbuck
@Thunderbuck Ай бұрын
@@BillyONeal It does, but if ALL of your wheels are helping to propel the truck (and they're all traction-controlled) you'll eliminate most of the instances where you NEED chains. No, maybe not all, but MUCH less often
@BillyONeal
@BillyONeal Ай бұрын
@Thunderbuck again, all wheels already brake and chains are still needed just for braking. All wheels being powered only helps keep the drive wheels from spinning. Thinking all wheel drive fixes traction completely is an extremely common misconception

Can’t wait for my utility bucket truck to go electric. The noise alone hits 95 decibels and we work 3 am would be nice to all the people trying to sleep. Then have optimize were the batteries out of the way. Then have where the drive shaft used to be for our 11’ hot sticks and our long shovels for digging deep holes. A Edison Motors type of approach would be okay for me. Diesel while driving and electric while chilling and PTO stuff.

The down side of putting the batteries in the trailer like that, is it reduces the max paid load of the trailer due to road weight restrictions. This on one hand will and can be major for shipping long range with items that are fairly light weight. But, the real market for these are for companies that operate retail locations, where they deliver to several locations on each load, but also purposely aim to make 2 sets of runs per shift, allowing them to use the trailers to run the truck and charge it at the same time to prevent/reduce down time for the trucks during business hours.

27:40 I would think that if there is AC onboard already, then AC out makes sense, however if you do not already have the vehicle set up for AC out, then having DC out, where the contactors close as if connected to a DCFC, but instead of charging the HV battery, you discharge it via an external inverter to get AC for V2X. thus you dont have to carry the inverter onboard for V2X compatibility. i realise that some vehicles run the charger in reverse for AC out, but if you use that method, we may only see 1.5kw out in some applications, where if we DC out we can use 50kw with the appropriate inverter, with passively cooled cables in most applications.

I like the semi trailer the most actually, when you got that, you safe energy no matter what you drive (Electric, diesel, name it). With solar panels on top of it it would be even more great. Also note that when parking, you don't need the actual semi if you think about it, the trailer got a motor on it's own anyway, parking on hard locations will be more easy as well, since the semi doesn't have to be attached while parking. Also, even if you don't charge it at all, but only use it while breaking regenerative, you still safe fuel.

It’s all about moving parts. Full electric whether batteries or small cmv powering an electric motor is more efficient and has fewer moving parts. Cheers

Lots of great technology on display and looks like a bright future but seems like a big lag in getting this implemented and built out. Still dealing with the same 4 to 6 unit EA/EVGo CCS stations scattered about with usually at least one unit not working at every station. Where is all this great stuff out in the wild.

Isn't there a ferry in Scandinavia that already uses megawatt charging system? Mining, cargo handling, and short-haul ship are ripe for electric treatment.

46:11 my wife drives a school bus and her biggest complaint is the lack of heat in the winter and non-existent air conditioning in summer. School buses are horrible. She can’t wait to transition to an EV bus.

Would you recommend a school bus with an LFP battery over an NMC battery if it meant the extra weight of the LFP battery means the passenger count is lowered? Would it be that much better long term?

Why would you lower the passenger count? Do you need to lower the passenger count on an EV if you put in a bigger (and heavier) battery?

With our biggest states, California, Texas, and Florida already restricting electricity during peak periods, I just wonder where all the electricity is going to come from if the electric transportation movement happens as fast as the government has mandated.

Interesting to see Proterra in the background. I guess they are going to continue after their bankruptcy.

Looks like a lot of compannies want to get into the charging business.

I don't think you actually need to standardize if you push AC or DC over V2G since we are switching to NACS. A bidirectional charger that had the inverters would be able to handle anything with the right relays. Or if you know you aren't going to get a car that pushes DC than you can just get a cheap bidirectional charger that doesn't have inverters and save the money. But it's not going to be the end of the world if it's not standardized. Standardized communication and interoperability would be important though.

Hydrogen is a storage system with 20% efficiency, I want to see how a hydrogen will be an alternative for a green transformation?

It won't.

In few instances there will be free or very cheap fossil free electricity and large amounts of water available and need for oxygen and heat (district heating) then hydrogen can be a viable alternative.

There's some pink hydrogen setups that look like they may be viable.

@@Harrythehun So you have 2 choices. Spend "x million" on the hydrogen extraction plant (which needs a lot of maintenance) and get probably more oxygen than you need and too much heat at most times of the year, Or Spend the same "x million" on a battery and have 4 times the energy at hand to use for whatever you want, when you want it? . Then I read the comment again... "Cheap, fossil free generation"? Which will be connected to "the grid"? On which there will be 1) Other areas requiring energy, or with spare battery storage Or (for instance) 2) Homes and other buildings which will have "Electricity" servicing the building? So could have "electrical heaters" plugged into those services? . The vast majority of "local district heating" will be some kind of geothermal, so won't need a supplementary supply. . Don't stray from "K.I.S.S" trying to make a bad system relevant.

@@atochagv It could have polka dots, it still won't be "green".
