I could ride one (electric). I never liked noise. But currently bateries are so primitive; heavy, short-life span, long charging time. I hate heavy motorcycles - they handle not so well and practical aspect of weigth also matters (to surprise of many people you not ride motorcycle all the time but sometimes you have park it or service). So electric motorcycle is good only for city ride. I hope it will change next decades.

I think all vehicles (gas & electric) should come with an on-board handcrank generator for emergency charging. if you're stuck out somewhere then you'll have the time to get cranking anyways.

It is weird seeing people pass red lights during the day, in my country its only legal by night or if it is activated speed sensor

Yep. In Spain, the police are too kind, especially to two-wheelers.

Somthing to keep in mind with electric motorcycles, the technology is still in early stages. 10 years ago a 24kwh battery was for a electric car. Energy density will continue to improve and by 2033 you will have 44 kwh bikes. Chargers are a problem now, but more are being built every year and charging speed is going up.

Yeah, motorcycles technical development trails about 10 years behind cars too. Take led lighting for example, its just starting to become the norm, and cars are already out there with self adjusting, intelligent laser lights. Same with the displays. On the other hand, battery tech is pretty much identical, just a smaller package consisting of the same cells. In the meantime, i'll be whizzing by on my Versys whilst you are stuck waiting for a charger. I would get an electric motorcycle for home-work riding, but i also do long distance sometimes. Electric just isnt an option for me (yet). It also doesnt feel 'right'. Maybe efuels are a better choice for bikes honestly.

@Henk van Voorst at the moment you're correct, but when charge times drop to 10 minutes and energy density doubles? After another decade of advance in charging infrastructure and technology? Frankly I doubt gasoline powered bikes will be able to survive the end of gasoline powered cars, without the excess demand of 1 billion cars on the road the oil industry is gonna wither and only hobbiests will be able to keep the motorcycle thumping.

Is this translated from another language? The script feels off. The language in the regenerative braking section is some broken english.

Yeah this is definitely a bad translation. The longer the video went, the worse the language and grammar became. Good info, bad writing.

Early on you incorrectly suggest the bike you are testing comes that way stock. It does not. Those are third-party add-ons the NL dealer has added (trunk, hand guards, windshield, crash protectors, projector add-on lamps. These are not available from Energica or through other dealers. BTW, the model you are testing is two generations old. There was a newer RS model that came out afterwards (with a lower maintenance motor and faster gearing), and for 2023 a newer battery chemistry RS model that improves on range. Around 3:50 you state the new Energica Experia is built on the SS9 motor with the same battery. This is not true. The Experia has a larger, new chemistry, 22.5 kWh battery AND a brand new, more efficient, purpose build motor. It is a completely new frame design; new computer system, and about two generations ahead of the model you are testing. In addition, it was wind-tunnel designed for maximum aerodynamic efficiency. Around 4:20 you state the SS9 has a 22.5 kWh battery, it does not. As the label on the side of the battery will tell you, it has a 21.5 kWh battery. The ranges you posted were Experia ranges, not SS9 ranges. Around 17:00 you make claims of how hard it is to turn an electric bike, making these assumptions global for all electric motorcycles. These comments would not apply to the new Experia, as it uses a backwards spinning motor (a trick from MotoGP clutches) to help neutralize some of the gyroscopic effect of the rotating tire mass. This makes the bike nimbler than a comparable gas-powered bike. The inaccuracies, biased opinions, and assumptions continue almost endlessly; so, I'm not going to bother commenting on the rest. But needless to say, I would not take most of whatever else is said on this video with any sort of confidence.

That's what I said - "with Horizon package" - I didn't say it was stock, but it's not DIY, ok? The point was: there is a large battery, they made a tourist package and all together cost this amount of money. And it does not matter, what generation - the essence of the video is not in a model EsseEsse 9+. I said in the video that this is the first electric motorcycle that I tested - it was 2 and a half years ago, when this generation was actual. 3:50 You're right, except wind tunnel (i mean, not important thing). Adventure motorcycles usualy have panniers and topcase. 99% of adventure bikes have a bad windshield, very often changed to higher one. Original cases looks like default cases from Shad/Givi without any aerodynamic work - it's not the same story as with the Multistrada V4. 4:20 I just said that this is data for Experia - newest with new chemical process. If you look at the data for the old SS9+ - they are pretty similar. And the point is, even the brand-new Experia is still not good for highway, so all its power not important. Here is the data from Energica. For EsseEsse 9+, the data is taken from the web-archive on an old battery. Do you see a significant difference? EsseEsse 9+ 21.5 kWh: 420 km City / 246 km Combined / 198 km Extra Urban Experia 22.5 kWh: 420 km City / 256 km Combined / 208 km Extra Urban / WMTC 222 km The data for Experia is taken because WMTC has appeared - that's all. 17:00 It was about the fact that electric motorcycles have a strong inertia due to the weight. Even if this is not the case with Experia - video is not about Experia, but I will keep it in mind when I take Experia for a test. Where did I go wrong?

@@adv-moto Thanks for the detailed reply, but I fear you keep pushing opinions like "even the brand-new Experia is still not good for highway". I just finished 3,400 miles (that's almost 5,500 km) of mostly highway crossing the entire United States on a pair of Experias. They were GREAT on the highway! We did a steady 110-120 kph stopping to charge as necessary every 130-180 kms. It was a fantastic touring ride and now we are planning a trip north to Canada to visit Nova Scotia and Newfoundland.

Believe you, thanks a lot for details. I have plans to ride on Experia, this summer there was not enough time. Nuance is that after 120 kmph everything changes dramatically - some hybrids start engines after 120 kmph, because a big waste of energy begins. However, above 120 kmph - average highways speed in Europe, because a greater "uniformity of speeds" than in America. In Germany, 140 kmph is an average calm traffic speed with a minimum of overtaking, fast cars in the fast lane - around 160-200 kmph. On powerful bikes with windscreens, the average speed - 160-180 kmph. In other EU-countries, the limit is 130 kmph or 120 + threshold - however, the traffic speed is uniform, closer to limits (in France, you can push cruise control button on 125 kmph in traffic and not approach cars), so bikers never ride at 110 kmph - not a best, when you are overtaken by vans and caravans. On bikes that cannot keep an average 130 kmph (for example, dirtbikes), it is easier to ride on country roads. This like standard here, and a FAQ is whether it is comfortable to ride a bike at 130 kmph. That's why i was talking about speeds 130-140, and mentioned that there are no problems with country roads speeds (in western EU we usually have 80-90 kmph, in Germany 100, in eastern EU like Ukraine, Russia, etc. 110 kmph on country roads). Also... there is another thing in EU-highways - the average distance between gas stations is 40-50 km (in northern part of Norway easily can be more than 100), not all of them with plugs, so the distance between plugs is even greater. And one more thing (not in every country, but still a problem in Spain and France) - in the mountains there are usually no cities with gas stations, only olive, persimmon or tangerine plantations. That's why it is uncomfortable to travel here on motorcycles even with a 250 km range - not enought EV-infrastructure and you need to think about every step. :)

He's right. Heavy motorcycle is ALWAYS hard to manouver. I have always fun reading comments "this is heavy but you do not feel it when u ride". Not true but in addition at some point you stop riding. And you have steam locomotive to handle.
