Yeah, battery-powered electric motorcycles still have significant drawbacks. But for a scooter, like this 2023 BMW CE 04, the advantages win.

I have one and it’s great. I use it for my commute to work with a roundtrip of 80km‘s (live in Germany). Use it all year round even in winter where I’ve ridden to work with -13 degrees C ❄️

its neaely perfect, all it needs is to get 90 mile range and 85 mph. So when they make the CE05 with these abilities, then i can buy. The only dilemma is, they may never make a CE05 , soooo, that means maybe the CE04 is a buy now.

Why is 85 so much better than 75? Have you ever ridden a scooter? I would not want to be going 85 on a scooter personally.

33 cents per KW Hour? Phew! We paid about 10 through 2021, 11 in 2022 and 2023, and moving to close to 12 in 2024 (all-in cost including taxes, fees, etc.). This thing does make a little sense for errands / light commuting, although over $14K is a little tough to swallow.

Yeahhhh, it's pretty high here! If we end up driving our EVs more, we'll switch to a time of day plan that would drop it to 26 cents overnight. The problem is then from 4-9 it would be $0.68 :/

@@DailyMotor I suppose the relative lack of harsh winters or heat stroke summers means your actual usage is usually lower than much of the country.

Let me break down who this BMW is for. 1. If you do less then 75 miles a day traveling. 2. If you just love the looks of it (like i do, especially with the optional flat bench seat, that i must have if i got this BMW). 3. If you dont want to spend money on gas and oil changes and have to replace clutches like on normal motorcycles. 4. If you need a emergency backup vehicle if your main car dies or wont start or had any issue where you cant use it and you need to go to work. This is the perfect backup vehicle, almost like a spare tire is to when you get a flat. 4. If your a recluse like me, who goes to work, goes home and nothing else, and only goes out extra if i need food and things like that. I do exactly 48 miles a day. So this BMW be perfect for me. But these are all who this scooter is for Its EXPENSIVE though. But i feel the benefits it has over a motorcycle is worth paying for.

It can charge on a level 2 charger if you want to go further than 75 miles. yup

PS: Im actually now waiting for Can Am Pulse, that is supposed to be coming out this year soon. And if it has my parameters of 90 mile range and 85 mph or more, then i have to get the Pulse. But if its the same range and mph as the CE04 , then i have to get the BMW. ✌️

I just need to chime in about warming up your bike. That’s completely unnecessary unless you’re riding a carbureted bike that’s in need of a carb cleaning . I ride year round in Michigan until the snow and/or ice says otherwise.

It would make a great delivery bike, being safe in the knowledge that it being so undesirable, that nobody would want to steal it. It would also reduce in battery capacity and range with each use and day you have it, with battery degradation, how convenient. Who wants to go longer distances anyway ?

Not at highway speeds the whole time, but with a mixture you could make it

I commute 24 miles, from glendale to goodyear . I'm going speeds of 40 to 50 miles per hour, no highway driving . I use about 40 % of the battery to get down there , and I use 40% to get back . I normally have 20 % battery when I get back , about 12 miles of range . You might be able to make it going those speeds at that distance , but you'd be cutting it to close, to close for comfort . The real world range of this bike is 60 miles . I've owned this bike for a month now , I've put over 450 miles on it. Also keep in mind deep discharging of your ev will cause faster degradation of your battery. I also stay in eco mode the whole time

@@chrisfifield8583thank you, great honest summary of the bike. 60 miles real world versus a claimed 80 is a huge difference especially staying in eco mode, and makes a difference when talking about a $15-$16K ride.

Yes, but this is not a Kymco or chinese 125cc Scooter. It is a motorcycle with 3 disc-brakes and real ABS, 62Nm engine torque (similar to 650cc ICE), 160mm wide rear tire, reverse gear, keyless go, cooled phone charging bay, phone-pairing to show Sat-Nav in the driver display. It is built in Germany by a great etablished Motorcycle-make, not a small startup that easily dissappear (like "Kumpan"). And last not least, since the end of the Isetta-bubble-car, BMW never was about to provide cheap basic mobility. Currently (Sept.'2023) the CE 04 even is the one and only electric scooter beyond "125cc" class.

The eastern country had this for years. You go to the charging station to swap out a modular battery with a charged one and put your used/empty one to charge there like a gas station but with a battery about the size of a 12v. It's much more practical than this EV thing but in scooter form.

All electric vehicles are garbage. My CE-04 is in the shop after three months of ownership. All automakers are beginning to see large money loses in EV vehicles.

Sorry to hear that. Definitely still in the early phases of these vehicles, and unfortunately customers are often guinea pigs. That being said, my Maverick 2.0T also spent a month in the shop thanks to its wastegate failing, so supply chain is likely to blame for a lot of repair delays.@@Bobbgeane

As a rider of 38 years, you’re honestly the worst kind of motorcycle rider. Riding between vehicles, passing them at lights, complaining when you can’t pass someone or scoot over for you and calling them oblivious. When I’m in my truck, I just want to open my door when a motorcycle jumps through traffic between vehicles. It’s not a bicycle or even a Vespa, it’s a registered and licensed vehicle of the road and held to the same road laws or at the least….road etiquette.

@@DailyMotorthen I owe you an apology. Here in Texas, either a cop will cite you a citation, or someone will open their doors. Definitely not encouraged here, nor when I lived in NC, but that may have changed since.
