I make sure when I install garage doors that I do it in a way that my screws don't become buried later on during the installation. Partly for my own benefit but mainly in case the next guy has to make an adjustment five or ten years down the road.

Was about to comment this perspective! Things break or have to change over time, having your panel laid out like this (which would only take them a bit of extra time) would save you A LOT of time figuring your entire house out before being able to fix the problem/upgrade. If only people thought more about their future selves xD
@georgemccune2923

At least the cover fit back on the boxes you have encountered. I usually run into something 7 of their friends and no less than 2 "professional" relatives have absolutely destroyed and the panel cover is just leaned against the wall below, mounting hardware nowhere to be found. My favorite is the trusty orange extension cord with the end cut off attached by the stripped wire being shoved under a breaker where it engages the busbar and then runs out a nearby window then down the side of the house and is buried. That powers the garage they remodeled and wired up themselves. Gotta love the confidence of an imbecile.

Super. I LOVE that conduit hickey/wire bender, and yes, it is a pride matter, an attention matter, and worth it. This Sparky sleeps VERY well at night knowing that I give every home this treatment, and it is nice when the inspector smiles at you and signs off on the permit, not to mention everyone who ever works on that box down the road will thank their lucky stars that you did your job, AND a neatly wired box is actually safer for the homeowner and anybody else that works in the box. P.S. I always show the box and my work to the people living in the home, not only assuring them about the lifetime of peace of mind for the money they spent, but I also explain things, like how to properly reset things like GFCIs and circuit breakers, or how to put a fuse in the furnace cutoff, or etc. & etc. I would love to get PAID a couple hundred bucks per hour, but my pay is but a fraction of that, as most of that money goes for things like insurance, bonding, and gas and tools and supplies. 💙 T.E.N.

Keeping a good reputation with clients keeps your job. Keeping a good reputation with other industry professionals gets you better jobs. 1. A clean valve box. 2. Shut offs for each valve. 3. Labeled wires. 4. THE PROPER NUMBER OF VALVES PER BOX (its not Tetrice!) 5. A 4 foot stretch of extra wire neatly curled inside the box for repairs. 6. A strip of 8oz filter fabric placed under and arriund the box to keep spiders (black widows mostly) out of the box and to keep the box from filling with dirt over time. 7. Finish it off with some 57 stone on the bottom. And thats how you properly install an irrigation valve box.

The conductor bender is a funny touch 😂 I worked 30 years in Security Systems and when you build anything with future service in mind, you will find solid systems will be installed with meticulous care. Everything will be documented. Foundations will be laid with future expansion points, quality casings, cables and fasteners which will be thoroughly tested. Any points of failure will be easily found and serviceable. Yes, it's expected to work and will do so as long as there are good connections...messy or not. However, having a clean flow of energy/communications is the ultimate outcome for a well performing system. The best performing systems need this type of care in their installations. You will find they fire up perfectly, and if they don't, you can find where the failure quickly and be able to replace it efficiently. Hence obtaining a good reputation for yourself, your team and employer. Basically, it's called being successful and building a great reputation.

If you're electrician is doing this you ARE paying extra, like it ir not🤣. Thats WHY he is doing it! I can do this same panel, almost three times as fast, and looking almost identical, charging you almost half of what this guy would. As a journeyman who does panels, I can say without a doubt that while he is wasting his time with the panel, his apprentice is right behind him running the low voltage wires that he didn't feel like running.

I don’t think I’ve heard anyone trash on clean work. I remember troubleshooting a panel and immediately thanked whoever worked on it how easy it was to navigate the problem wire. I also added a plastic tag wrapped on the wire to signify what was changed.

I don't trash clean work, but I do trash the people who slowly use a pipe bender to bend 12 gauge. There's clean work, and then there's spending hours on a panel to get a perfect 1.5 inch radius on each bend. Just bend it over your thumb like a regular person. There is a tradeoff, a point where you can still do great work, but you do it efficiently. That's the sweet spot I want to live in with my work.

@C I'm actually out of the electrical trade per se. I now work as an electromechanical engineer. I basically design machines, fixtures, and robot systems. If you're young enough (I'll say $65k. But, OT should take you above that. Also, after your journeyman level, you can branch off in several specialties, all of which pay more. The specialties are things like: automation, fiber optics / communications, high voltage, estimating, management, etc. People don't want to work with their hands anymore. So, if you're smart enough (basically have a strong mechanical aptitude), you're willing to work hard, and you're young enough, this might be a good path. By the way, this is one of the few careers that still pays a pension upon retirement. That, in addition to your SSI, should make retirement livable. Having a personal retirement isn't a bad idea to add in and make your retirement even more comfortable.

I'm a contractor, and I love to see panels like this. It makes it so much easier to find the right circuit.

If it was labeled and dunnright within the the panel you don't have to look for any circuit each circuit should have a label on it and then it's landed on the breaker what more do you need to have there is a fine line between a waste of time and making the thing properly work. And unless you do it everyday make money from it and actually are an electrician your comments are just bullshittin hot air

@@rubberdee007 Exactly, I'm probably gonna end up firing your ass if you have are spending hours meticulously bending wires. Land it and let's go. Job was bid with a certain amount of time for every task, just because you "have all day" does not mean you're not cutting into job costs for no reason other than clout on social media.

Not an electrician but Marina construction and we deal with power for motors and remotes daily. Coming from that, we take the time to make things neat and easily read/ accessible for the next person, which could possibly be the same person who worked on it initially.

Clean neat work not only makes you look good as a professional, but when somebody else comes along to work/fix it, everything is laid out neatly for you already. Basically a cheat sheet, instead of a rats nest. I respect this highly.

Yep. If the electrician is violating 110.12 that all work must be done in a neat and workmanlike manner for one of the most visible things in the entire install, the panel, then what corners is he cutting and codes violating everywhere else.

I spent 2+ hours making the wires in my PC pretty and it's hidden behind a metal panel. If a tradesman has the same attention to detail as I put into things they are a immediate go to for me.

Extra cost??? You have no idea what you’re talking about. Its possible to do I nice install without being a snail while doing it. He’s not costing YOU more money. He’s costing the whole company more money. Install jobs get bid not by the hour and this is obviously a new install.

@@AtomicFollyIDK about that, the bend in camera was worse than all the other bends. Seems like a complete waste when a 3” radius isn’t required nor does it slow the current down LOL BESIDES, check out the bends on the bare wires, much tighter
