In this video we will provide you step by step guide to design eVTOL for two people 100 km.
The aircraft will be battery powered and have at least 30 minutes of reserve flying time.
The steps shown here can be used to provide design details for the eVTOL design challenge 2022

I think you can reduce energie, t, ll make the V-tol of grafeen, the most light construction material on earth. Further on you could use the concept of the lifting body. Also shifting wings could do a good job in effincitie in speed and stability. Problem with grafeen it,s a expensive material to make, if you could make it cheap, you could revolutionige the aviation industry.

How come nobody adresses the recharge? I understand that gotta get through point A to get to point B, maybe im jumping the gun here but if you have a switching power supply you could make these things run for a long time and possibly extend battery life cycle as well.

It is easily possible to vertical take off & land, using three phase direct electric power to some stage of cruising altitude (using a detachable electric connecter). Also a hybrid of hydrogen and battery power, using hydrogen lifting power at the same time as using it as fuel to cruse to extend the range

The maximum thrust capability of your motors is WAY too low. In order to have hover stability (using fixed pitch props) you need at least 2.5x thrust available. Increasing motor power (by adding extra motors or finding larger motors) would add probably around 26kg. You didn't spec the weight of the esc's...probably around 0.5 kg for the motors you spec'd. More for larger motors; say add another 5 kg. Wiring?? Even if you have the batteries right at the motors you still need to connect all the batteries together. Add another 10-15 kg. Spars, landing gear, control surface servo's... You start to see why building a functional eVTOL isn't a backyard project. "Airplanes are always heavier, and cost more than originally designed"
@KevinATJumpWorks
@KevinATJumpWorks Жыл бұрын
Mostly agreed, but 2,5x seems overkill. From what I have seen thus far, 2x seems to be the standard.

When you say aircraft surface area is 30.5 square meters- how did you find that? is that the surface area of the side (one side or both sides?) and top of the fuselage as well as the top of the wings, or just the top of the fuselage, or just the side of the fuselage and top of the wings? I am confused where you got 30.5 m2 from because your wing area is only 12, and the fuselage is not much bigger if your just counting surface area from the top.
@ElectricAviation

It was the surface area of just one side. The wings were 12 Sq m. There are two vertical stabilizers. There are also landing fins

@@ElectricAviation False. If one inspires a race for innovation, the harder (within reach of feasibility) the more spin off technologies emerge when the race is eventually won. In other words, it's going to take more innovation to achieve vtol ev vs stol ev. And each unique innovation needed will have uses beyond this one race. This is why American President John F Kennedy said "we do theses things not because they are easy, but *because* they are hard." The dream we aspire for is hard. And the dream we aspire to is something most of you don't know. It's a race for the age of the Jetsons.

We can use a supercapacitor or ultracapacitor dedicated only for (vertical) takeoff or landing. As they weigh much less than conventional batteries, they can reduce the overall weight and increase the range to some extent. The major disadvantage of supercapacitors compared to traditional batteries is they work in bursts, i.e. they charge and discharge relatively quickly. This can be an advantage here because vertical take-off and landing using rotors require precisely that.
@yogeshjadhav3513

We can use a supercapacitor pack dedicated to takeoff/landing and a battery pack for cruise mode. The capacitors can be charged using solar/other mechanical/regenerative techniques.

I watch most of your videos and generally agree with you but this 460kg max thrust for 450kg MTOW can't be brushed over. With excess thrust of 10kg climb rate is 0.22 m/s, you're not going to reach your stall speed in 20 seconds. You're not going to have enough thrust to control the attitude or to gain any forward speed to get above stall speed. You need at least 1.2 Thrust to weight and more realistically 1.5. Also you have no motor out redundancy. Back to the drawing board.

Then you need 8 motors, two on each of 4 axis for (talking about the quadcopter-like minimum here). The tilt-wing mechanization must have redundancy. And contingency plans, what if the landing pad is not available, etc. Safety is the starting point! Some designs are more safe than others.
