Let there be no air-conditioning in offices, fans and open windows are okay. But no, they are OFFICERS, who can stop them ? They are masters, we are a herd of speechless animals.

There should be a system in which the IPPs directly supply to consumers. It should be privatized. A lot of corruption is done in the middle which causes the increase in burden on the public.

AA. Please make a video on whether Pakistan should declare default in light of the following arguments: 1) Our interest payments on debt this year will be 9000 Billion Rs and are thus more than 50 percent of our federal budget. This is unsustainable because we don't have enough left for other segments. For comparison, this amount is almost double the entire provinicial budget of Punjab and around 4 times our defence budget. 2) In order to pay this massive debt interest, the masses are being forced to pay colossal taxes which is making the lives of everyone miserable We would also like to know what the actual impact of default will be. Will our debts be written off? Will we be able to import necessities like petrol, medicines etc? What other consequences will there be for the country? Thank you so much!

It is a good decision to decrease electricity tariff for industrial sector. KWhr produced will be utilized in more productive sector rather than consumed. Government wants to discourage consumption and encourage productive consumption.

@@ahmadisrar9446 What option does government has ? 1: Subsidize consumer grade electricity and burn dollar reserves ? 2: Reduce tax on electricity and risk derailing IMF program ? 3: Go into default by saying we cant provide capacity charges to IPPs. This will scare off even those investors who are willing to invest in Pakistan in current situation ? There is no shortcut, there is pain and we have to go through it. Government is incapable and unwilling to tax right people i.e. retailers, property developers etc.

Why do you see teriff as negative for us, we are a country who has a huge trade deficit and we can improve it through protectionism and from the growth of private sector industries it will also provide employment and from this economic the government will be able to collect more taxes which they will ultimately be able to expand on the people as it is Pakistan where reforms didn't happen in favour of civilians but if government were at trade deficit or at default so there is no chance for public spending we have to criticise but negative things such as policies which didn't give benefits to civilians or it can be harmful to them you must be have reason can I know how an increase in tariffs are a problem for us

Pakistan should stop blaming IMF for price bike. This is what every single order does . They will lend you money based on your repayment capacity and related risk of default will determine interest rate. This is a most common practice then why should you blame IMF for that. It is Pakistan who is responsible for its own condition. I used to work in India for a Pharmaceuticals chand we used to pay interest of 0.125% pa on import finance in late 80ies. In those years India did not have a good economic condition. That speaks for country.

The capacity payments are overly criticized. Don't forget that if you are allowed to openly criticize something, it's because there is something more sinister behind it that you aren't allowed to talk about. Capacity payments exist across the globe. That means in many countries people pay the price for the electricity they don't use. The problem in Pakistan is that we are not growing at the pace that these IPPs were designed to support. Guess who's to blame for that??? Anyways, electricity theft and lack of bill collection are bigger reasons and acxount for much more money lost to the system than capacity payments. Also, IPPs make revenue from two sources, capacity payment and energy payment. Energy payment is for the electricity delivered, while the capacity payment is sort of a fine for the electricity that the company could have delivered, but the govt didn't take it because no demand. Remember that in Pakistan, these companies can only sell electricity to the govt. They can't sell it to a private mill owner or factory for example. So the govt needs to pay capacity payments to get that privilege. And when we talk about capacity payments, it's not like we're paying the full electricity price. We're only paying a part of it. This part ensures that the IPPs get their promised return on equity(usually around 20%)

Govt require power generation from IPPs during few months when hydel capacity is reduced due to extreme winter. Or peak demand in summer. Why agreements were signed for the whole year. Between 2013-18 it was absolutely clear that IPP are a menace but govt still opted for them instead of going for big hydel project with China under CPEC for quick commissions.
