Let's Build a Mortal Kombat 1 Arcade Cabinet

Electric Starship Arcade

This is Madness! No, this is the Electric Starship Arcade where we make dreams come true. Our resident madman, Mike Murray, decided he was going to build not one, but two full size Mortal Kombat arcade machines. With the release of the brand new MK1 imminent and the chance to see a legend grace the arcade once again I was more than happy to lend a hand.

Def brings back arcade memories. I remember when mk3/umk3 came out with the huge projection type screen and set up that, especially for the time, could rival this one if not better. I'd love to see all these mk pros compete against each other on a arcade set up in a mk1 tourney at one of these big events instead of console play all the time.

Mortal Kombat was big when I was at my first year of University of Michigan, also Street Fighter II. The machines were already crowded just as they were back in 1990-91 at the North Campus commons where everyone went to get lunch and hang out in the lounge, arcade area. I can’t imagine what kind of absolute and complete chaos a cabinet as awesome as this one would have created. There would have been REAL physical combat just to get a place in line to play it, It’s just amazing

The cabinet is fantastic. The only thing I might have change was player one buttons and joystick colors to red that way it would not only different the players side but also represented Liu Kang's red and blue fire dragon sides. But either way the cabinet is absolutely awesome.

Used to work at a vending company in a warehouse tearing down old games, building new ones, redoing all the joysticks and buttons, and replacing all the art on the cabinets and making sure the coin mechanisms worked. My mom owned an arcade through the 80s, and we always had games at home to fix and play nonstop haha.

@@DOWNTOWNMAK Bad idea for OLED screens to be used as arcade cabinet displays with all those static images like HUD elements. There are quite a few companies out there that still make arcades. I live in the Tampa Bay Area, and a new arcade building company started recently. It seems arcades are having a bit of a come back. Our local arcade (Replay Amusement Museum in Tarpon Springs) is very popular and almost always packed. Ours is $14 for a day pass. $8 for kids under 12.

Arcades aren't as dynamic than during the 1990s, especially with how powerful videogame consoles are along with their online capabilities. To me, arcades main appeal are the racing, gift, test your strength & dancing games, something that aren't easily replicated at home. Kudos, for the OP making a MK1 cabinet though.

AWESOME Cab! I wouldn't display it in that order though. MK1 is the successor to the legendary originals so it should be on the end! Just imagine: kids would have *exploded* like Kitana's fatality if that turned up in their local arcade back then...

That is a thing of absolute beauty! Are the other MK cabinets original or custom built as well? Hard to judge the size in the video but the graphics on the cab look correct

Super incredible build. But that Burger Time cabinet is gorgeous, too. I'm always a sucker for Burger Time. It's one of my earliest memories of gaming

For so long, I've wanted to make an arcade cabinet in the shape of a PS5 and make it look like one.

The build is awesome. The cabinet has clean modern look. But in my opinion I prefer a more vibrant approach. I know that the developers intended to have the white theme as they wanted to reboot the series but I would have sticked to a black base color. IMO I really hate how bland Liu Kang looks and if I was forced to put him it would just be in the front panels. But I wouldn’t even put him in the cabinet. I would add maybe ninjas on the side like reptile and smoke, or maybe a couple female characters like ashrah or kitana, and if u wanna do some different stuff then general shao, kenshi or even havik look dope!! This would make it less bland and more vibrant imo Anyways cool build
