The Battalion Nano can be a bass players best friend. It has 3 different EQ modes and the all important blend knob. Allowing you to control the amount of saturation you want.

I never believe that you will make a pedal review, now you have infinite possibilities to cover different kind of gear, also I love how the channel has a variety of bass content now and it's not just gear review for other musicians

@@WhichBass The only weak point of the Battalion as far as I am concerned is the noise gate. It takes too long to close and if you listen as a note fades out it doesn't cleanly cut off, but glitches out before finally closing to silence. It is fine for reducing noise during fairly long quiet parts of songs, or for between songs, but it useless for stop/start parts or for quickly silencing the signal at a stop.

I too have a full sized battalion and it is a killer sounding preamp. I’ve been using it for recording and it sounds phenomenal. And I do agree that it’s an underrated preamp pedal. Great tones at an affordable price.

I really enjoyed this review, very nice demos and bass playing. I have been looking at this pedal for some time now and i have made my decision, i am defenately buying it! Thank you for this video, also have you considered making a bass rig video on Joey Demaio from manowar? I believe this would be a very interesting one and i would love to see it!

Nice review man. Just seen the bigger brother of this pedal in the pre-owned section of Guitar Guitar. Was looking for a pre-amp with a D.I for my pedal-board, tried an MXR variant but found the distortion too buzzy for my taste - just looking for a bit of subtle grit. Need to give the big Battalion a try next time I'm there if it's anything like the little one. Cheers.

Cool demo and awesome Ibanez bass. 😎🤘🏻🎸I have Ibanez soundgear basses and they’re keepers to me. And the pedal sounded pretty cool. I did the warm and heavy overdriven sounds it provides. I’m thinking about getting one.

Update: I own the regular battalion preamp pedal and it has the same killer mosfet distortion tone as the battalion nano. And It sounds phenomenal in a recording.

Hey Alfie, didn't want you to think I forgot about you. Trying to get those samples of the Bogen on bass , just having a few difficulties working with my sound guy and his hackintosh that keeps crashing and I don't think they'll come across as good trying to do it on my phone .I've picked up an interface for home and hopefully soon I'll have something to share . \m/

Sorry for a newb question. But if I want to go from my bass, to my pedals, then out to an audio interface, that’s where I’d need a preamp. It’d be the last thing in the signal path before the interface? So then Instead of a bass amp, id have this pedal, then I’d hear the bass playing through the monitors that are plugged into the interface for laptop as normal? I’m new to wanting to record so I’ve only ever plugged my bass & pedals I to my bass amp. My bass amp doesn’t have any 2nd sort of output where I’d go to the interface so I presume that a preamp would replace the bass amp? Is that correct?

Don't be sorry for newb questions. We've all been there. For your situation, the easiest solution is a preamp and a DI. In simplest terms, the preamp boosts your signal and shapes your bass tone via eq and drive. The DI converts your signal from unbalanced to balanced. That balanced signal is suitable for recording into your interface. You can buy separate preamp and DI boxes or buy them as a combo pedal. The Nano Battalion doesn't do a good job of advertising this, but it's also a DI box in addition to being a preamp. You just need a TRS cable between the pedal and your interface to transfer a balanced signal. The product detail page on the EHX site mentions this. I'd recommend the combo pedal route if you're starting out. It's typically cheaper and easier to manage one pedal. I've had the Nano Battalion for a few weeks and so far it's solid. There are many more options out there though. PS. Your other assumptions are correct. Preamp/DI combo pedal should be last in your chain and go straight to the interface and it would replace your bass amp.

Catching up slowly with the releases, but yeah, I like the pedal. I still haven't found my match made in heaven in regards to bass dirt. It's always too saturated, or too shrill, too little, or whatnot. Good video anyway !

I have this thing, cant figure out how to use it. It didnt work for me straight in to a power amp. And it seems too OP [overpowered/too many features] as a dirt box, even though it works like that. Interested in seeing what you guys do to it..

I don't think it's meant to be a preamp, it's just an overdrive pedal based on the drive section of the battallion preamp. Like how darkglass makes the b3k which is the overdrive part of a b7k without all the preamp stuff

Try using some of the settings in the video. It may be a good place to start. It all depends on what you want. Also a good tip is turn the drive knob down to 8/9 o'clock and blend to taste. That way you only get a tiny bit of dirt/saturation and have a different tone.

Pretty cool pedal, though, the "treble" being at 1khz and "bass" being at 200hz bothers me more than it probably should.

Yeah, they're not so much "treble" and "bass" knobs, more they're "high mids" and "low mids" knobs

@@WhichBass Pre sets selector knob snapped off, on my POG 2 , I tried to get a preplacement the only way by contacting the factory directly , it came to a grinding holt with the woman on the switch board having Kittens.
