Electronic Lead Screw on the Craftsman 101/Atlas 618 6" Lathe

In stead of dealing with gear changes every time you wish to change the feed rate, you just push a button (or two).
This is the implementation of the Clough42 ELS on the Atlas Lathe bringing the 1940s lathe into the 21 century.

Wondering...why can't a geared high torq motor be fitted on the apron? I can imagine it being down where the halfnut lever is tucked in tighter than BIG Omike.

Sorry if I missed this information but what size and model number servo motor are you using ? The original motor James tried on his lathe was way under powered to run my carriage without kicking out. Oh by the way I have a 1954 southbend

the motor I use is a hybrid stepper motor called MDrive23 which no longer is made. I got these off of an X-ray machine. You can still find them on eBay but unfortunately, you'll also need to custom order a programming cable to set the configuration of the stepper. I do have a 13:39 gear ratio from stepper to spindle which helps
