Maybe you know this one already but If your HP3314A is old enough it might have the Handel's Messiah Easter Egg buried in the firmware. From power OFF, push and hold the "SW/TR INTVL + START / FREQ + blue function key" then turn ON the power and continue to hold those buttons until you see the seven segment led flashing register address locations - then let go of the buttons. When it's done loading memory it will start playing Handel's Messiah in it's entirety. PS. you'll need to connect a speaker to the function output jack to hear the music! Back in the 80's, a good friend of mine worked for HP and knew the Engineer that worked on this function generator. As the story goes, HP's test equipment product development model gave the Engineer a crazy long time to develop the instrument. Usually takes about 10 months to get to a production ready instrument, then they get a couple of "extra" years to over Engineer the product which is why their test equipment is so good and lasts so long! The Engineer for the 3314A had finished way ahead of schedule and finding himself with lots of time on his hands decided to hide this musical effort into the ROM code. It took many years before his supervisor discover what was done and they subsequently removed that Easter Egg from the firmware. HP Party poopers!! enjoy...

I’m glad I found your channel Mr. Mark. I’m from the US and I was in the Army in the early 90’s ( Gulf War Era ) and was trained as a Radio Repairer ( 29Echo ) Sadly I really only learned how to fix the equipment we were currently using, I’ve forgotten a lot. Watching your videos and others I follow remind me of just how much I’ve forgotten when it comes to bench testing and all that entails. You’ve definitely earned my subscription.

I love this stuff. I should have gotten deeper into electronics when I was going through high school and pursued an EE degree. What amazes me is how people that have these sort of labs afford what seems to be hundreds of thousands of dollars of equipment along with the expertise to work all of it. It's beyond fascinating.

Years ago Tektronix sales rep sent us their latest scope for us to play with and we unboxed it and I switched it on. It starting doing the Windows boot sequence and my colleague and I just looked at each other and sighed. Without any further discussion I pulled out the IEC from the back and put it back in the box.

I was impressed to see most of your instruments are plugged in and ready to power up. 🔌 Must be a dream to work in this environment but your electricity bill is probably eye watering! Thanks and I am enjoying your videos and work! 😁

you have an amazing lab. you use analog and digital oscilloscopes, function generators, frequency meters, power supplies... everything a good electronics lab needs, simply wonderful.

I really enjoyed the tour of the shop - concise, useful info. You only left off the wall-mounted power switching that features in some of your videos. Good info for safety.

I turned the volume down when I was watching the 'soldering' part, as my Mrs was asking me something. I returned the volume again to hear Mark saying "Massive Tips!" - I must admit that I actually misheard it first time! Haha! Awesome look around your workshop matey! Good stuff! Paul

A fantastic range of equipment! I have to make do with rather basic stuff. Although it's worth pointing out to vintage radio hobbyists that you can achieve a lot with very little, such as simple soldering tools and a basic multimeter, pocket oscilloscope and perhaps a second-hand signal generator.

Wow from 2k to nearly 50 K subscribers in one year, thas HUGE especially for this type of content of repair/electronics, your quality has been noticed.

I've only recently discovered Mark's channel but I've been compulsively watching him fix things that the vast majority of people would chuck in the bin (as you Brits would say). I've learned a great deal in the 15-20 videos I've watched so far. Thanks!

I'm very envious of your set up great stuff, I love my Tek 2465A, and HP 8903a, great pieces of kit. I use the 8903 with the Pere Millet software to do distortion plots, mine needs some attention though it doesn't read as low as it should. Keep up the great videos 👍

this is my favourite channel !

I did my undergraduate physics work using one of those venerable Tektronix 2465 models. We had to record the images using a Polaroid camera attachment. The old girl is still beautiful.

Enjoyed the tour of your lab. Many classic pieces of test equipment. I don't have that much room in my lab so I have purchased modern Chinese test equipment and some of the mini Nano VNA and spectrum analyzers. I did not however see a tube tester? Keep up the good work.

Just came over and have of cause no clue of the electronics you are doing - but I like to watch and listen what your considerations are, also like the way of shop from laith to electronics which is unusual. I am in model RC only and get barely into ocilloscope to understand more about the flight controler. Best wishes from northern germany.
