Excellent presentation. The best I have watched. Having the parts cleaned and having clean hands helped a lot in addition to your professional delivery. Also having the items set up on a clean surface without any clutter/other items lying around is very effective in preventing distraction from the surrounding environment (for me, at least). Clear concise demonstration of the moving parts, their purpose and interaction was excellent. This presentation could be used for new mechanic students very effectively. Thankyou.

That was interesting to see how it works, and despite seeing a seal kit for my 101 is cheap, i've opted to go for a new master cylinder as i'm replacing the rest of the system apart from the brake drums. I didn't intend to replace this part but while bleeding the system i noticed fluid dribbling down the brake pedal...
@MVW54
@MVW54 4 жыл бұрын
Important to mention… When the piston is in the rest position, the brake fluid will be balanced via The compensation hole. This compensation hole is very small, clean this compensation hole with a very thin wire of copper, if it would clog… you are guaranteed a dragging caliper, this has already happened to me twice!!! with the Honda CBX 1000. Stay Safe.

Just another little bit of information, the smaller port is the compensating/vent port is the smaller diameter hole, and the larger diameter hole is the inlet/breather hole. The function of those ports are very integral to the function of a master cylinder.

Let alone the right ones for my particular MC? I have a Mazda 3 S 2012. I wish the MC wasn’t like $300+ from Mazda oem, so I will probably go with something from autozone if I can’t find parts for my Mazda MC

The only constructive criticism I have is that when you were showing the piston next to the cylinder and talking about the holes through which fluid would be drawn, it would have been helpful to have an arrow indicating which holes you were talking about. Great video! My pedal is still a bit low to the floor after changing left rear caliper and bleeding the whole system multiple times. Suspect it's those seals inside the 22 year old master cylinder on my 1995 Toyota Avalon. Thanks for the tips.
@electronicsNmore

Larry Hecht If the problem didn't exist before the caliper change, then you definitely have air in the line. Use more aggressive action with the brake pedal during bleeding, or use a vacuum brake bleeder.

I'm not sure if the problem was there before the caliper change. My wife drives this car most of the time, and she's not sure. im all for rebuild kits! When available, however. Im actually researching cutting (aka turning) brakes, as i want to use a small master or perhaps a motorcycle master as the individual wheel brake. I believe i need to add a inlet line from the primary master cylinder brakes to the front of any smaller master i end up using. Seems like i may be able to simply tap a fitting into the front of the small master to accomplish this, but time will tell.

very well explained thanks you. However, if we focus on one circuit (either rear or front), how does the fluid flows inside the 2 wholes? I mean I dont think gravity is enough so that fluid goes down? maybe I am missing something
@jerseyneil1
@jerseyneil1 6 жыл бұрын
When the brakes are pressed inside the car, the piston inside the master cylinder is pressed. This causes tremendous pressure inside the master cylinder, which forces the brake fluid through the port holes. Most cars have 2 ports, but in this video there are 4. When the system is bled of all the air, there will always be brake fluid throughout the system, including the master cylinder, ports and lines going to all the brakes. It's the pressure that causes the system to work, not gravity.

Please make sure when changing seals you buy OEM seal kit that measures exactly the same to the piston.... most cases the seals next to the springs are the same sizes with the small groves on it and the other seals most cases are the same take out a picture to make it easy to remember how you removed and happy measuring

@@electronicsNmore yes it works probably but when I hit the break pedal and hold the pedal slowly go forward and break it self get loos. It seems like there is leak or air pressure inside the system, regarding the leak I do confirm there's no leaks in whole system.

Can you tell by looking at the master cylinder if the primary piston section serves the front wheels and the secondary piston serves the rear wheels OR if it is a split diagonally which brakes one front and one rear on opposite side?

Does brake fluid typically bubble up in the reservoir when you let off the pedal? Running into issues with my brake set up.

You should see no bubbles, only clear fluid.

Is rebuilding something you may wanna do like exchanging brake hoses e.g. after 15 years, or just wait until it brakes? I just had a quick look on Ebay and seal sets seem to be like 20 bucks or so...

Baerchenization After 15 years you might want to replace the seals.

Thanks... I am harbouring that idea to get an old BMW 840 one day and make it less crappy. There is not much sympathy around me for BS like that though, mainly based on cost, I suppose :) But at least now one can check online what all these things are gonna cost in advance...

Thank you for the nice video. very useful. Just a question if you don't mind. Vehicle is using the shoe and drum break system. when I step on the brake paddle, everything works fine, however, when I release the paddle, expecting the system to normalize, the front left wheel, shoes does not push back to normal position, causing the break shoe I replaced to wear out in just one week. I am suspecting the the brake master cylinder but not too sure about it. Would you have a better idea to solve this? Break drum is perfect with new wheel bearings, all pistons are ok, no leakage, and well adjusted, I cant say it is too tight.

Derrick Isapi. If only one wheel brake is failing, then the problem is at that wheel, not at the master cylinder. Completely rebuild the wheel brake cylinder. Remove rust wherever brake parts slide. Make sure the adjuster turns freely. Exercise the linkages and pads looking for excess friction or worn parts (teeth, ratchets). Then bleed all the brakes until the fluid comes out clear.

very informative. On the piston closest to the booster does the cup on the seal face the booster or the inside of the cylinder? i changed the seals in my rav4 but fluid is still leaking down the face of the booster. Wondering if i installed the seal the wrong direction.
