It's stuff like this that sets you apart from the others Sorin. I know how it is; for most of my life I lived in a place where we had to improvise and adapt for many repairs because that was in most cases the only option. This is as REAL as it gets.

you know it's easier to place a crappy $1 buck converter, than spend 5 minutes looking up the chip... who cares the ssd will not fit anymore 🤣 simpletons will love him for the "genius fix" anyways.

@@robertjung8929 i also don't like that cap removal everywhere... when caps are used and they die, for me that's a sign, that it's needed and even undersized... these times, where no manufacturer has something to give away for free, i don't think, that they place those just for fun

@@electronicsrepairschool Sorin! I think it's wrong voltage! It should be 0,75V and also the one and only drive will not fit anymore! You blocked the SSD slot with the module. Not very clever

Hi, I say it is a good repair, just adding a different DC to DC converter (power supply) as a source for the 1V. One point though. The free space you used to place the PC board looks like the place for the M.2 NVME hard drive. You need to keep this free for the hard drive, you just have to find another place where the PC board would fit.

Love the frankenSorinstein repair. It's great to think outside of the box and if we're ever in an apocalyptic scenario I can see Sorin like that go to DIY repair guy in a community repairing anything and everything with whatever he has laying around to just get the job done. Again, love the FrankenSorinstein repair and the critical thinking outside the box. 👍

It was actually really good repair. That's reverse engineering at its best. Well done Sorin i would probably do the same if i couldn't find the chip to buy or i had to repair it fast.

Brilliant work-around for missing 1v supply. Especially the enable voltage from the BIOS. Not a bodge, re-engineered, beating the manufacturer at their own game. Who cares what that 1v supply chip was? 😀❤

great repair, the issue is with manufacturers eliminating and basically not caring about protection circuits on the main power rails and mosfets to save $$$ and MAKE more money selling you a new laptop. Your repair saved the laptop from going to the landfill and becoming e-waste, something these big corpos claim they care about, but you are the REAL environmentalist!

Great job but the customer will be surprised when he realizes that there is no place to put the M.2 ssd because Sorin "found" lot of space for his power suply :).

Was waiting whole time when he will notice this. "No bootable device" and still missed it :) This looked like 13" or 11" laptop. It is as small as it gets. If there were free space they would make it even smaller. I guess this one will not pass three month warranty. A bit too far dodgy :) Anyway great video for learning what this channel is all about!

That was my thougt too. I could be wrong but it looks like he used the space where the SSd should go. So if the owner wants to put in a SSd as boot device, he will now have the buck converter in its way. Apart from that the repair was ok. Maybe he should look up the CPU Voltage table for the CPU. Do not know if 0,99V is enough for CPU at full load.

boot device not found because no ssd has been installed. you placed the circuit in the ssd slot space :p .... maybe you need to re-placed this circuit to other place or use mini size ssd . but grate job sir. love you from Bangladesh.

Haha I have done things like that before with my friends laptop, the 5v is missing and i do the trick with that step down module, the exactly the same module, and the laptop still work until now

How has nobody commented that the power supply is put in the m.2 hard drive slot? The laptop is fixed, but where will he put the hard drive? Maybe he can get a mini m.2 and glue it to the board. LOL love the fix nonetheless and watch all your videos Sorin.

Hello sorrin. Where did you solder the enable wire for the after market power supply. Was it on the enable leg for the EPROM and the other end of the same wire, was it solder on the vcc of the bios

Oh, the slot for the ssd was used for the adj power supply, will the nvme ssd will fit again?
Msi GT72, a nice laptop with an unfixable fault, sadly we can't fix them all
