This video features a model railroader’s unique approach to making his basement crawlspace storage area more accessible. It’s filled with offbeat humor and unexpected surprises. Be sure to watch it to the end!
The Skokie Tunnel Company is an operating 7-1/2” gauge railroad. Here is a list of the key suppliers we used:
½-inch high aluminum rail - www.rmirailworks.com
Wheel/axle assemblies - www.tacllc.biz
Chain-and-sprocket transmission parts - Burden’s Surplus Center
Misc. electrical and mechanical items - Amazon.com, Grainger

This is really cool, I have never seen anything like this. Great job, I might try to make a line like this one day.

This was so much fun to watch-I really enjoyed this. Thank you! It’s a really cool idea. It’s actually quite a smart application. Friends of ours live in a side-split home and have a similar crawl space. They use it as a cold room for storing preserves and similar things. Like yours, it’s a pain to get into and out of. Our previous home was of an age that predated full height basements which rendered the space equally “challenging”. I can easily see how something like this would be quite practical. Thanks for the links to the parts you used.

Wonderful! And you are delightful! Also, LOVE the elevator! Originally came to this site to view the MF Christmas video, but found this gem. Was delighted to find you’re in Skokie, where I am from. Thanks so much!

This is awesome. Any chance there are other garden railroads that share a common gauge so you could run it on a bit more track?

There are other 7½” gauge systems out there, but the very slow top speed and the need for frequent recharging makes it impractical to cover any distance.
