Some additional info for zinc plating/galvanizing: Cromium VI is obsolete on passivated solution because it is carcinogenic. Yellow usually contains chromium VI, so Blue/irredescent or clear thick passivation is the way. 10.9, 12.9 bolts (1000 MPa tensile strength or higher and or 320 HV or 32 HRC hardness) should not be zinc plated because of the Hydrogen embrittlement chance is exponentially higher (there are some solutions, like heating the part to remove the majority of the H) This embrittlement means corrosion alongside of the crystal borders and it can cause cracks For this strength/hardness parts/bolts zinc flake coating is the solution. For example KTM uses lots of 10.9, 12.9 bolts and all of them are zick flake coated. It is a satin/matt coating with good anti corrosion properties (better than electroplating) At my work we have to take attention to this so I just want to share to you guys. Thanks for the detailed video!✌🏻

I would agree completely with your comments on the carcinogenicity of Chromium VI salts - contact with these should be avoided at all costs, particularly if a safer alternative is available. Various EU directives from the early 2000s onwards have restricted or eliminated the use of Cr VI, mercury and other nasties in car production, to protect the environment and public health. I can't comment on strength and hardness.

Thank you for this, a lot of what customers don’t know about plating(Zinc/caroming etc) is, it’s really all about the quality of polishing of parts prior to giving them to the person plating. I was a polisher for 6 months and used sanding wheels/polishing mops etc. I processed a lot of car/bike etc parts and it’s a lot of graft, trust me

OMG if you knew for how long I've been waiting for this video from you!!! Thank youuuu!!! One day it would be also good if you could teach us some painting tutorial, like how to prepare the surface, how to use filler, what type of paint you use, how to paint, how to put on clear coat, if you mess up any of the steps how to correct it (if it's even possible or you need to restart it, or somehow remove the orange skin etc.) and things like that. I would even pay for an online course from you for these things.

I have exactly the same kit as you and been plating for several months now on my BMW Z3 project, all underside bolts zinc plated. One thing I've found is that if you're not careful the fumes from the Dry Acid will rust everything within about a metre from the bucket. So cover up or move anything expensive!
