Fascinating! This is the first time I have ever even HEARD of such a thing as an electrostatic air filter. Thanks for a short, to the point, informative video!

Thanks. I am surprised by how little I knew about these and how hard it was to find such a simple, common-sense video explaining them. Thank you!

Great info thanks, I have a question, I bought a manufactured home the return is in the laundry and at floor level and they told us a 18x18x1 will fit but I measured and is 17 1/2 x 17/12 x1 any solution for this? Tia and have a great day.

Hello David. Thanks for your videos. Question, are you familiar with Pristine Air IAQ 2000? Any thoughts on this? We heat our house with a really nice wood stove and don't use our furnace much at all in the winter. We have some allergies and are wanting to clean the air much better. We were thinking we could just use the "fan only" option to circulate the air through this cleaner, but just didn't know if that would be a wise idea. Thanks!

For older systems how is air flow affected and if restricted how do I correct it?
@jeffshore6824 жыл бұрын
There are problems with electrostatic filters- they do not create a charge when the humidity is high, they also have a large static pressure drop and may restrict airflow. Another reason I don't like them is that you have to wash them out and wait for them to completely dry before you can put them back in. During my multi decade long career as an HVAC tech. in Florida, I never was a big fan of these.

The 4 or 5 inch filters are a better option and can last up to three or four month; however they must be installed in the return side of the furnace or air handling unit. Owners with units in the attic tend to forget or hate to crawl up there. Better have their HVAC co. come every six months and inspect systems clean drains etc. a make sure filters are replaced!

I heard the Pleaded filter tend to stress the blowers ? Is that true?
@bobboscarato13132 жыл бұрын
Hello Mission AC: Electrostatic air filters were a problem from the beginning as they are very restrictive causing reduced airflow which in turn ruin compressors and heat exchangers as well as discomfort due to humidity control among other things!

Excellent I purchased the washable one it's already paid for itself!!! very easy to clean and dries quickly!!!

@@staly23o it's a bummer I really would like to get one of these washable ones but too many mixed reviews. I would feel more comfortable if 3M would slap their name on one of them LOL.

So your buying 2 electros,1 in service whilst the other is being cleaned & dried.My mothers Lennox has an Electrostatic.. a wire with a pin jack that plugs into the filter frame,is the wire for the reminder to the stat to clean it or is it charging the filter somehow ?

Great insights. Do electrostatic filters need to have a certain MERV rating to function well in the home?
@utubewillyman4 ай бұрын
From what I'm reading, an no electrostatic filter receives a very high MERV rating. I don't think that's desirable for most people.

David, If i have media filter Installed in the return plenum, do i also need the 1" filters on return grilles on ceiling?
@bobboscarato13132 жыл бұрын
Wherever there's a return openable filter grille there should be a filter unless your system has a filter cabinet on the return side of the furnace or air handler. Check with your servicer to make sure.
@ktbcj7 жыл бұрын
The first filter you held up was filtrete ultra allergen reduction. It is considerably more effective than the electrostatic and on par with the 4" media with particle reduction down to .3 micron.

Hi David Lewis, Does Electrostatic filter need filter media?
@bobboscarato13132 жыл бұрын
Is either one or the other; media filters are far better than electrostatic; electronic air filters require washing from time to time. This is a tedious job which should be handled by a professional to avoid damage to the cells.

Can the one inch inexpensive filters simply be brushed off and then put back in service? Brushing them off in front of a fan outside removes 100% of the dust it appears.

You can’t see Micron particles
@Dcc3574 жыл бұрын
Extremely fine particles get permanently stuck on them over time and reduce airflow through the pores. It will take may more than brushing. The only efficient way to clean one is to use a blow gun with a 120 PSI air compressor lol. Good luck not blowing a hole though one.

How about air flow resistance ? The more filtering, the more resistance? Poor air flow is bad for furnace blower.

@@livefootagetube Of course. I always use 16x25x5 inch pleated MERV 8 filter. This is good choice for AC unit or furnace.

It is also bad for heat exchanger and it can lead to compressor failure!!!

Don't need to replace EVERY month? Depends on where you live and how dirt they get. Example, where I live...summer yes, winter no. All due to dust and dust does not fly around when the land is covered by a foot of snow. Name names? Really? First would they give a hoot, second, why would you even say that if you won't name names? Make you feel bigger?
