There is no one better than Balanchine. But, there are ballets of his that I do not care for, like this one. The music. I do not like the music.i watch some ballets over and over. I just recently discovered Concerto Barocco, and already I have watched it multiple times. Right now Concerto Barocco is the greatest, best ballet ever.The music. I love it. Same for Symphony in C, particularly the second movement. So beautiful. Rubies. Theme and Variations. Another recent favorite is Chaconne. OMG.

I love Balanchines work and Tshaikovsky and I`m not a fan of this ballet! In whole I dont like it, this one. But you can find a lot of very great and fine works. Mr. B. always was working, thanks God!

I may be mistaken, but I thought this was one movement from Tchaikovsky Suite No 3. I have never seen it done alone (at least not in last 12 years or so) as "Elegie". However, I believe it is the 4th movement that is done frequently as 'Theme & Variations." People who do not like this work are not alone. NYCB used to do the whole Suite No 3 much more often, though I know some, including former dance critic for NY Times, criticized it and said only bit worth doing was "Theme & Variations." It has to be at least 5 or 6 years since they have done the entire Suite No. 3.
