Element 55 inch 4K smart led TV, no picture. Can see picture with a Flashlight. E4STA5517 TV repair.

This 55" Element LED TV has a black screen when powered up, but if you put a flashlight up to the screen you can see the Element Logo and/or a picture on the television screen.
Any time you have an led TV with a black screen and you put a flashlight up to the screen and observe a picture (flashlight test); then you have a backlight problem with your television.
In this Video we will repair this Element 4K TV model E4STA5517 by replacing the bad backlight strips.

I had same problem with that board glued, used a heat gun with small tip and heated were glued and it came off easier. I've used so much from your videos.

You could use moderate heat to soften the glue on the driver boards. I personally use a hair blower for that.

Backlight issues are the main reason why I stopped fixing TVs for people. I'm into electronics and love fixing things, but TV backlight issues just became too common and too frustrating. I'd even replace the blown LEDs with new ones, instead of just buying a new strip, so the whole job became quite lengthy. I just don't understand why the companies use such shitty components knowing full well that most people will literally just throw away the TV, when all that is wrong is a few blown backlights. Saying that, those same people will no doubt buy a new TV, which is exactly what these companies want!

Another backlight failure! Is there a reason the backlights are not wired in parallel ? On another note, ever consider having an overhead light on a dimmer switch to show the other lights on the tv when you are referring to them ; such as the standby, power light, and Leds?

Hey bigdogg! I have a element E4SJ5517BF and my issue is the tv will come on with a image and then a few minutes later it has no image but the backlights are on. And I can hear the audio going. So I was wondering if you ever ran into any issues with this model.

I don't have all your diagnostic tools, but I have the same issue on the same tv: 1) Should I just replace all the LED strips? 2) Is there a simple tool I can get to diagnose most common issues without the intimidating amount of hardware you have?

Just replace the strips, led tester comes in handy also.

i have a 43' samsung smart tv. It is continually power cycling with no picture. I opened it up and found out if I disconnect one of the 2 (doesn't matter which one) ribbon cables that go to the LED panel, it will stay on, but still no picture, and I don't know if that's because both have to be connected to get picture ( figured one cable would show half screen) and the power supply can't sent enough current for both cables, or it's an issue with the panel itself. So basically I can't figure out if I need a new power supply, or the panel is shot. All caps on power supply look good, no bulging.

@@bigdog8882 Hey, you were right, but I wanted to let you know I just fixed it by putting tape over pins 12 through 20 on the ribbon cable for the left side. It may work the same if I do the same for the right, but I'm just gonna leave it and be glad it's working.

Man I bought all these tools to fix my tv (digital microscope, backlight tester, suction cups etc etc) and still no closer to finding the defect. I bought a PS board repair kit on shopjimmy (cause PS board was out of stock) soldered all ten parts & it didnt fix it so I bought main 450v caps still no love so I purchased a PS board elsewhere still didnt fix it, then I took tv apart and tested each led bead (66 per side/edge lit) & all LEDS light up & show good Voltage. Is it possible the leds could be bad even though they test fine??? (Using same exact BL tester that you have) Symptom: TV backlight shuts off after a random time 20-60 min usually. Obviously I cant test the backlights with tester for that length of time. T-con board passes Flashlight test. Im gonna drop another $50 on led strips & see what happens I guess.....

Don't know what kind of TV you got. But if the backlights shut off at anytime; then that would of been the *first* thing I replaced, backlight strips.

UPDATE: I replaced the LED strips and now the backlight does NOT automatically turn off anymore so that's fixed however I have a new issue maybe you can give an opinion??? Every 4 seconds my screen dims slightly. It alternates from perfect image to a dimmer image (the dimming appears to be faint horizontal black lines covering the whole screen). Also noticed a slight buzzing coming from Tcon board. Would a defective Tcon board cause these issues? Only other thing it could be is a main board issue because I have replaced the PS board & backlights strips already. Thanks for your thoughts man! Oh here are some tcon voltages that seem strange but I'm not a tech so not sure if these are a problem: -VGH & VGL both have 0v -VGH EVEN & VGH ODD test points both alternate between 27.9v & -7v (IDK if these two test points should have a steady voltage or if they are supposed to alternate between two different voltages)

MD LG55LN5400 UA SN 30SRMHR18465 This LG Flat screen 2013 model screen will come on if unplugged for a period of time lasted all night the first time i looked at it unplugged it and turned it on.. That was till she turned it off then, No back light when turned back on.. Its a friends TV She wants it repaired so She located you I watched a few Videos .. I use to repair TVs prior to Flat screens using Sams schematics many years ago.. I know I can do the repair provided i get the proper part or parts from you.. When on its fully functional .. She told me its now coming in for about 5 min then the screen goes blank.. Can you help diagnosing the issue so we can get the parts and fix this Flat Screen Thanks Floyd
