I'm very happy that Aryna won. She has been through so much with the untimely death of her father and this shows an unusual amount of reserve for her to come through that tragedy as well as not playing so get and for her to win this Australian open title. She will win another grand slam and I'm very happy for her.

Sabalenka brute power while hitting those groundstrokes is clearly evident there. The big thing is her serve has improved a lot with the time she spent with her biomechanics experts.

It doesn't actually. The first point was a miscut and out of place. After that point they actually start from the first game of first set.

I get that there are a bunch of pro-Sabalenka horndogs out there. But her 'grunting' is textbook gamesmanship, and she should be called on it. She is still 'delivering' her grunt as her opponent moves to strike the ball.

@@sy2219 The sound the ball makes as it bounces can provide info about velocity and spin. A 'grunt' that lasts into an opponent's swing is gamesmanship, as it prevents the opponent from hearing that bounce. This isn't just about distraction.

Rybakina's game is very one dimensional, it's all about the serve. Her ground strokes are very weak, after 3 or 4 shots she'd hit into the net or out wide/long. She got this far by bullying all the weaker players with her serve and (not very well controlled) power. Sabalenka exposed the weakness of her game here by going toe-to-toe with her on serve and power, and bossing her around on the ground strokes by hitting with accuracy and pace, beautiful lines, corners and angles. Sabalenka is a much more complete player and deserves this win hands down.

Why are all the commentators saying her name is Ry-bark-ina instead of like Ree-bakina. The umpire says it as Ree-bakina so surely thats the correct way but these aussie commentators all say it weird and they are the only ones. Does anyone else notice this???

They are pronunciating it as Ra-by-kina. Neither Ry-bark-ina nor Ree- bakina.

@@iHarshBharti all im saying is the umpire is saying it differently to the commentators its obvious. 17.30 listen to the umpire then the commentator. maybe its the american commentator.

Every player should have right to play under her/his country's flag. One cannot choose the country of one's birth. WTA/ATP/Tennis Australia, stop this nonsense and do not mix sport with politics. Appointing "flag police" it's not even childish... it's embarassing and insane... Wars are run by politicians not sportsmen/sportswomen. Why during the invasion of Iraq, 20 year bombing of Afghanistan not to mention the genocidal Vietnam war US, Australian, UK... athletes were allowed to compete under their national flag? * All wars are equal, but some wars are more equal than others.

Aryna not succumbing to her mental breakdowns and winning her first major was SO much sweeter than Novak winning by way of his opponents losing by being paid off namely by gamblers. I am so glad the women's AO was not tainted by money.

@@henrytae834 Yeah, but that's the problem. Professional tennis is hemorrhaging viewers. Both live and televised. Part of the reason for this is that most of the players are unrelatable and/or unwatchable. Sabalenka is an example of the latter.
