The 2023 US Open main draw runs from August 28 - September 10 in New York City at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. The groundstrokes from these two was absolutely amazing to watch. I wanted Rybakina to win, but Cirstea deserved to move onto the next round. She played really well

I am impressed at how Rybakina's handshake at the net is EXACTLY the same when she wins a Grand Slam final or loses a match in the same scenario.

I'm so impressed by Cirstea. I've never seen her play with so much control. All the power is still there, but there's depth, angle, point-building and a bit of variety with some slices too. The point at 1:08 alone demonstrates this. Her game is better than it ever was, she's mentally stronger than ever, and she's getting more consistent with challenging the top players. In terms of level of play, this could well be the best match of her career so far. At 33, she could break the top 20 for the first time in her career playing like this.

I agree that Sorana is playing better than ever. I haven't seen the match statistics but she seems to have better control of her hard flat groundstrokes with fewer unforced errors.

i have seen her add more shape to her shots before but it appears more conscious and deliberate now. what jumps out the most to me is how much more applied she appears, right across the entire match.

i hope rybakina can rest her shoulder and come back stronger. her serving wasn't to her usual level. still this was a great match and cirstea played amazingly, can't wait to see more from her!

Cela fait qques années que je suis les matchs de Cirstea, elle a 1 jeu très intéressant et c est très agréable de la voir jouer et évoluer sur le terrain, et en pratique. Je regrettais aussi parfois son manque de réussite qui semblait tenir à peu de choses... alors aujourd'hui je suis très heureux de sa victoire et du sourire radieux sur son visage. Bienvenue dans le camp des gagnants, cette victoire tu l as bien mérité.

Rybakina still has the right shoulder taped so it clearly is not 100%. She needs to rest and let it heal or the danger is the injury will worsen. That said I don't think I have seen Cirstea play that well...ever.

I agree but I think this match was a bit more than that. IMO, Cristea was able to make her move a lot more than she likes. I've never seen her (Rybakina) looking as tired as she did in the 3rd set. She still fought like a champ but it looked like the tank was empty from all the running.

You have a point. That might be because they are limiting her practice time in order to manage the shoulder. If she is not at peak fitness third sets are going to drain her of all energy. @@saksit247

Rybakina no matter if she wins or loses always cool and composed. Lika a robot. Nonetheless - got tons of skills and fighting spirit.

I think she looked nervous and unsure of herself at some moment in this game. Her coach had to keep telling her, "it's okay cirstea can have strong returns you keep going" which is very unusual of him. Her coach never shows much emotion or support himself

Cirstea a sus 33 años luce espectacular. Una quinceañera le envidiaria esa figura. De donde saco Cirstea ese tenis con que jugo contra Rybakina?. En mis 15 años que tengo de verla, nunca le vi tan buen tenis. Y Rybakina mantiene la consistencia de ese mal tenis que viene jugando desde hace meses. Creo que el mejor tenis de Rybakina ya paso. Le sucedio lo de Karolina Pliskova. Paulatinamente va ir desapariciendo del top 10 y 20.

No, her best tennis is FAR from over. She’s a better player this year than ever before: 4 finals in 2023 and two wins including the “5th grand slam” (Indian Wells) and Rome Open (clay). She’s been sick and/or injured for 3 months. She’ll be back.
