A lot of people said Elgin Baylor was the best all round. It's unbelievable that both he and Jerry West, two superlatively well-rounded players with no weakness, were teammates. It's very appropriate they were honored by a plaque - together- at the L.A. Coliseum. You gotta remember, back when Elgin started there was very little basketball on national television - and cable and internet were light years away. We got our information from things like "SI" and the "Sporting News." I remember I was in 1rst grade in 1961, and some of the older neighbor kids had a "Sport" magazine with a story and picture of Elgin. I really did not understand baskeball. But I said to myself, "I must remember that Elgin Baylor is good."

So what? Jerry West is 1-8 in the finals. Wilt only won two rings. Both athletes arguably the best players at their positions since Naismith nailed that peach basket against the wall. And Wilt, if you know his sports history, was probably the most athletic of all athletes who have ever played in the NBA.

Well lebron and MJ are better than baylor no question saying that doesn't mean he is not an all time great and it doesn't mean you don't recognize his godlike basketball skills, but he is not a better player than lebron and jordan that's for sure. I feel like the same way some younger ignorant people tend to only look at players of their present time the older generation also is very bias and kinda disrespectful to the present stars. Looking at the situation with objectivity, Baylor is very underrated but the game was a different game in his time, if compare strictly what you see on the tape he ain't in LBJ OR MJ's league but then you gotta include the fact that if he was born 20 years later with the same natural talent how good could he have been. Botton line is, I don't have a guy like Bill Russell im my top 5 (clearly there have been at least 5 players that were better than him individually in NBA history) or Baylor in my top 15, but I can still respect and recognize their greatness and I think tha's what it is all about, appreciating the history of the game with objectvity

@@dustincobb5718 You are completely wrong about that. I have a clipping of an article that I could find and photograph, and post that recounts Wilt talking about that. The article was originally an interview with Wilt about how he thought Kareem was dissing him by implying that he [Wilt} never played against any great centers. Wilt reels off a list of great centers - Russell, Thurmond, Reed, Lanier, Bellamy, Kareem himself, etc that he played against. He then says, and this is almost a direct quote, 'Frankly, I think too many people dunk on Kareem. Hardly anyone dunked on me. I still have nightmares of when Elgin Baylor dunked on me '.

I disagree players are more athletic today as a whole. With less tech kids worked harder growing up in their day. 2nd reason the rules changed when the two hand check was removed players could do more athletic looking moves because they wouldnt get hurt. Plus with a three point line defenders guard further out making drive lanes to the basket happen more often.

Many of the voiceovers on the clip call Baylor "underrated." It's untrue. Forgotten or ignored, absolutely. But anybody who followed basketball in the 60s or 70s knew him as the gold standard for forwards. A victim of something that started happening in the 90s, when people began fetishizing "rings" as a lazy man's yardstick for greatness.

The year Wilt scored 50 per game, Elgin had more MVP votes. Before his knee injury, Elgin averaged more points and rebounds per HALF than Worthy did per game and Worthy is in the HOF. He led the Lakers in every statistical category and brought the ball up against pressure. One year, he had three times the rebounds of the Laker center. And, he was amazing to watch. Most similar to Barkley (he weighed 235 and led all forwards in rebounding), but much smarter and a better passer

I could change Isiah and Oscar, Rodman and Baylor and put Russell ahead of one of them maybe... But the first 4 I can´t change them... My 10 is kinda like DR. J´s 5, it´s greatest/favourites... To me Ray Allen isn´t even top 20... maybe 50... What do you think about LeBron?

@focifocus5239
@focifocus5239 8 жыл бұрын
well wilt was 35 after a injury and still was able to hold his own to karreem and also in his prime put up insane numbers that karreem could not match also wilt had finesse but could turn to power it was like you got the defence and passing and rebounds of bill and combine it with the offence of karreem and power of Shaq he has the best of all center the only thing he can't do is shoot but he does not need to
@ryebread5989
@ryebread5989 8 жыл бұрын
+focifocus kareem was better then wilt, everyone knows that, wilt was jealous of how much better kareem was when kareem was drafted, Kareem is the best center of all time, wilt was not, kareem came into the league and in his first 4 years he led the bucks to 2 finals, 4 years in the league, and winning finals mvp, kareem is better then wilt skill wise, wilt was powerful, kareem was a better "center"
