I really like the ying-yang theme that are present everywhere in the show. Some people are naturally confident and aggressive, and need Miyagi-do to learn control and balance. And some people are naturally passive and gentle, and need Cobra Kai to learn how to be assertive and decisive. Neither philosophy is perfect on its own, but combined is the healthy middle ground to strive for. Watching each character try to learn that balance makes this such a great show

@JamesTobiasStewart6 жыл бұрын
Which to me, makes the ending all the more tragic. This moment, embodies what he wanted his Cobra Kai to be; something empowering, that takes the weak and makes them strong. But steadily his students turn into examples of what Kreese's Cobra Kai was, people who look down on and bully those weaker than them and show no respect to opponents.
@natebroadus84746 жыл бұрын
While I do agree on some point, it should be pointed out that they haven't bullied anyone. They were just ruthless in pursuit of victory, exactly as they were taught. Johnny just didn't realise until the end that he was recreating Kreese's Cobra Kai all over again.
@andrewjenkinson89486 жыл бұрын
But the solution to bullying isn't by becoming a better bully. Cobra Kai has been, at its heart, a bullying mentality.
@natebroadus84746 жыл бұрын
mymentor I imagine that is what Johnny realised at the end. As an overall philosophy, Cobra Kai is very effective. It's more of a striking art, rather than one based on eastern philosophy. Cobra Kai is like Muay Thai, while Miyagi-do is like a combo of Karate & Tai Chi Chuan.
@mxbblife_mu6 жыл бұрын
JamesTobiasStewart I never looked at Kreese’s Cobra Kai as being a bunch of bullies...Jerks who respond with violence maybe but not bullies. Especially not Johnny...He always just responded with violence when Daniel came at him or talked to his ex girlfriend, that’s not the same thing as a bully. Same with this new generation of Cobra Kai, there were NEVER a moment when they were picking on weaker people...Showing No Mercy in fights is a different issue all together.

Best comment on KZfaq!! Thank you sir! Cheers on your behalf 🍻
@helios246014 жыл бұрын
@Andrew Aaboe Not this time around. Daniel's not doing Miyagi Do Karate properly. Mr. Miyagi taught Daniel for self defence and there was no other motive around it; Miyagi didn't care about competitions, he just wanted to make Daniel a better person. Daniel's reason for Miyagi Do is all wrong. He does it out of spite; out of revenge. Daniel still has hate and anger inside of him and that's causing his teachings to fall out of whack. His hatred for Cobra Kai literally causes all of the problems of the show: Miguel and Sam would've been fine together if Daniel wasn't so hateful towards Cobra Kai, which means that Tory never really would have had a reason to go after Sam and Miguel never would have broken his neck. Plus, we clearly see there's a lot of issues with Miyagi Do; Robby wouldn't have made a dirty move and attacked Miguel when he had stopped the fight if he was taught properly. The only explanation for the violent, almost Kreese-Cobra Kai style fighting from Robby is that he was taught like that or were at least heavily influenced by Daniel's anger. My point is that I doubt Daniel will win this one. Daniel's FAR from the good guy here. He has so much hatred and anger inside him that not only is he passing that onto his students, but he's also just being a bad person overall: trying to get Cobra Kai barred from the tournament and trying to force Johnny out of business (and by extension harming A LOT of businesses) by essentially bribing the landlord to increase the rent because of this stupid grudge against Cobra Kai is pretty bad. Plus, both of his kids are FAR too spoiled (especially his son) for him to be on the morally good side. I can't imagine Johnny ever spoiling his kids (if he was in Daniel's place) to that extent. So Daniel's a horrible character and so is Kreese. Johnny is really the character here that's good.
@ghostshimagaming11363 жыл бұрын
@@helios24601 Daniel is not the bad guy at all what series have you been watching? Yes he made some harsh calls and actions because of there past rivalry and his feelings towards the cobra kai teachings. but both are as hot headed as each other and will forever be in competition with each other because of that rivalry. but the real villain is Kreese manipulation of pupils brainwashing and pulling the strings just like before all to regain his club again to teach his way of thinking and fighting. I feel that season 3 is going to be epic and can't wait till January I'm hoping Johnny and danny team up to take down Kreese together.
@helios246013 жыл бұрын
@@ghostshimagaming1136 Where did I say Daniel was the bad guy? All I said was that Daniel wasn't the GOOD guy, which is true. Daniel's not really a good guy in this is he? He expects the worst from Johnny because of an old rivalry always. Daniel's not doing Miyagi-do Karate properly and that's a fact. Neither Daniel or Johnny are really "good", but Daniel's more bad in comparison.

This show really surprised me. Being an 80s kid and a big fan of the original, and even the 2nd one, I thought this would be a total waste of time. Was rolling my eyes when I saw the trailer. I mean how often is any sequel even close to as good as the original. Being that the Karate Kid movies got progressively worse, I thought there's no way this would be anything but a lame ass, pathetic attempt to rehash the original. Boy was I wrong, very wrong. I feel like people are getting the wrong idea about what the Cobra Kai series is about. It's about a lot of things than just being anti-SJW and anti-feminism. It's about Johnny trying to find balance in his life. It's about Daniel learning to move on past his trauma when when he first encountered Cobra Kai. Most importantly though it's about the students here learning to be much much stronger than they are.
