They did kind of suck them out of hyperspace and kill the ship's power. At the very best that means that their safety and survival was likely irrelevant to them.

They did disable life support, it just wasn't off long enough to kill (see how the cockpit glass is freezing up)

Nuh mate. Ice forms due to all the modules (except for life support) being powered off, thus generating only a tiny amount of heat.. Life support is on since there are no oxygen masks deployed.. Try turning off your modules in deep space and ice will form eventually as well.. Though it forms much slower than here. I guess they sped up the ice formation for dramatic effect.. Though it could be because they wanted to prevent some ships equipped with some low level life support from blowing up due to lack of oxygen, thus killing the ship in the process. Maybe this is why FDev left life support unaffected.. Idk though

I'm wondering if they're not just probing human technological capabilities. That's the intelligent thing to do. It's best to know what we're capable of before making negotiations, deciding if we're a threat, etc.

+Matthew Robinson addendum: given they're biological, they might not have computers. They might not realizing they're scanning a "dead" ship. That'd be really funny and confusing to them. Heck, come to think of it, they're probably just as confused at how our tech works as we are at theirs. If they need a ship they grow it. We build ours. Ian Cannon I've heard a theory stating that the ships are just investigating what's going on with their probes. We swipe them, and the Thargoids just see their probe popping up all over the place. They investigate, and encounter us. Someone added on to this theory by saying that maybe the Thargoids see our ships as weird metallic "space whales" that accidentally eat the probes.

the majority of technology mimics biology in some way. i wouldnt be surprised if ultra advanced technology is indiscernible from life

Have you ever seen Star Trek? Do you not know that bad shit happens when you initiate first contact with hostility? I'm sure there are other ways to analyze and understand these creatures (thargoids?) and that the developers are hoping that we find that out. You probably have to find an exobiological expert or some other engineer to be able to study and understand them.

Kyuubey I beg to differ. Someone tried to out-speed and flank it, and the Thargoid ship just swatted it away easily with a kind of force-field (wall). That guy lost 30% hull protection with one hit.

Joshua Fogg People have rammed them at the refueling barnacles. It bricked an anaconda and a cutter before throwing them back onto the planet's surface and flying away. It was super fucking cool because the conda sank like a dead fish while a guy in an SRV just watched
