I like how you gave the ship a large crew crew quarters; since this exploration ship and you're going to be in there a while. Nice attention to detail.

Extremely cool work! One thought that might help with space though - over on the Elite forums we're converging on the belief that "hydrogen fuel" must be stored in whatever dense form allows it to be shipped in standard cargo canisters, which have a density of around 700 kg/m3. It buys you a lot of space if you apply that to fuel tanks too.

No structural frame? Yeah, that sounds about right for a Lakon ship.

I think the FSD might be located behind the crew quarters in a sideways orientation, the distributor moves to the back with the third engine and the cargo areas move closer together. This leaves room for the crew quarters and the two new size 1 slots.

DBX is my absolute favorite ship in E:D. Even after all that time spent grinding for the 'Conda then the Clipper, this is still my go-to. Great work and here's hoping they took some notes from you for Odyssey :-)

Nice work but your thermal core is way to small for the DBX. This is the coldest running ship in Elite dangerous. Maybe add some of the wing area as your thermal core.. ;)

And to think I virtually lived in that Dimondback. I would call it exploring, but it was more like... eh-hem, lost in space. I used to wonder what they ment by "bubble". Yep... Aimless was correct.

I would think a hallway (from the door on the back of the cockpit) splits each cargo pod and they are split to each side of the ship not stacked vertically but i did enjoy the video.

That first build looks the more likely of the two, but in the case of the three thruster build, wouldn't the thrusters become 1/3rd of the size not just halved? doing that might save on some of the room lost to the FSD. Also FSD could also have some of it's volume relocated to smaller units on the side engine pods, just above powerplant modules. It could conceivably be split into a system of 2 L3 FSDs (or 4 L2 units) slaved to a L4 Unit in the center rear. Of course fuel would need to be moved, but that'd be achievable by adding a "sheet" tank in the armoured engine cover on the dorsal center rear, like you did with the rear "wings"

I don't mind if Frontier would use some of the space magic to resize some components to make them fit particular ship.

I love the DBX, love these videos. Do you just play with imagination to do these or do you go into the game and target the different modules to see where they are. I dont even know if the game actually even does that or just "targets" them now that I think about it.

I sense some cheat. The size of the class 2 and class 3 modules is not in 1:2 scale.

*brainwave* Split the FSD into two S4 units and swap the power plants for them. An S4 power plant can take its place, with an S3 engine behind it. The two S3 engines on the side can be replaced by S2 thrusters, since 2xS2 = S3 and 2xS3 = S4 :)

As if... immersion is strong with this one that's why we probably won't ever see it. :(

I don't think a lot of the aerodynamic armor plating of the DB is for fuel storage...

Love these vids as they feel inuitive as to where the sections of the ships would be but your design for the fuel tanks on this ship is problematic. For a ship that is designed to be able to take a hit it would be a massive design flaw to have a fuel system that stores the ships fuel on tanks on the outer hull. One impact from an armour penetrating explosive would either cause the ship to vent its fuel into the void of space or it would ignite destroying the ship

Someone needs to start a petition for space legs, fd are just to stupid to realize people want it and aren't going to spend money on the game if it doesn't have it. Or keep playing the game.
