In my mind everything depends on what the other competitors decide to do tactically. Kipchoge's a machine, but he's not gonna break away from a pack at mile 5 because they're not running 4:40 pace from the gun. There are quite a few super high caliber athletes in the field who could potentially split sub-62 for the opening half if they wanted to, but they could also split around 65 in which case it would be near impossible for Eliud to finish anywhere under 2:06.

Ive ran boston at it has a lot of down hill and narrow turns . Also big late hills with wind swirling. Is usually 5 to 7 minutes slower then most races. Also the crowds stand to close to the runners making it more difficult to breath and relax with all the screaming and drink dropping on surface. You can slip easy on gatorade as the road is a narrow 2 lane highway
@mathieudube6907
@mathieudube6907 Жыл бұрын
There is no reason why Kipchoge cant set the leading pace like he did at the olypics. The other two kenyans will not allow Kipchoge to simply take off. They will have no choice but to go with him. Thats the kenyan way. Kipchoges biggest advantage over his peers is that he is by far the best 42km time-trialist the world has ever seen. Everyone knows it. He will exploit it.
@mccluskey_xyz
@mccluskey_xyz Жыл бұрын
Another reason for the 2011 Boston CR -- Ryan Hall took it out FAST and he was fit enough that Mutai and others took him seriously. Without pacers, it is going to require another aggressive start by a competitive field for Kipchoge to do something really special. The best races are truly team efforts.

Agreed. Unpredictable because in two recent years (1994 and 2011), there was a 20mph tailwind the whole way, making those Bostons basically the easiest major marathons in recent history. Other years have been among the hardest. As of ten days out, weather predictions call for a significant headwind so I don’t think even Kipchoge can do it unless the weather turns out different.

@@seer1623 Yesterday local weather had us with a 15 mph headwind. Now they are predicting a 15mph tailwind. The forecast will change every day. Only if it gets really cold and icy then some one else might have a chance to win in the Boston marathon.

The best marathon runner ever in unpredictable conditions vs a course record set with as close to ideal conditions as you can get on that course. If the conditions are anywhere near ideal, Kipchoge walks away with the course record. If not, he's so good and so experienced with various different types of conditions that he could still threaten it but it's much less likely. If the conditions are OK but not ideal, I can still see him taking the record but he won't smash it by a minute or more without ideal conditions.

I almost freaked out because I thought this video was about Kipchoge dropping out of the Boston marathon. I mean we are still more than two weeks out and shit could happen still, but God I was scared

The forecast is a warm 48-66 degrees Fahrenheit for the day. He should be able to perform at his best.

Kipchoge is the fastest. But with the hills and tactics that can be at Boston..... people are saying he is guaranteed a win. No. He is not.

Kipchoge's first goal is to win all 6 majors, if he gets a course record along the way that would be great, but he won't look past the first place. He does run better in cool to mild conditions, so hopefully he'll get that on the day.

The weather is going to be the decider. Most years we go to the Red Sox game that day. Some years it's 75 degrees and other years it's 40 degrees and it's really cold. Just depends what Mother Nature decides for that day.

How he runs depends on the weather imho. I raced Boston in 2018 and will never forget that race and being treated for hypothermia postrace for over an hour after finishing.
