Just getting into this as a bedroom DJ, but have a little cash to spend on it. This is by far the most informative video I've seen, and I appreciate the straight-forwardness and lack of fancy "click the subscribe button" attitude. This bloke is the real deal, and I don't care that he's not using fancy KZfaq production lighting and microphones. Thanks man.

funny you posted this video. I had a pair of Audio Technica LP120x show up in the post today (minor upgrade to original lp120). Yes they are budget, they're not going to be as powerful in torque (but almost), they're not going to last as long and they're made of slightly cheaper material compared to technics, RP7000, etc. But they were £245 each and these are my first turntables. I'm not a scratch DJ, so low torque is just fine, it'll allow me to have a light touch. I only play in my house, so I don't have to worry about them being safe to transport. So many people say "spend a bit more, get second-hand technics", but you've gotta start somewhere. Many of the best DJs in the world started on shitty belt drives and faulty equipment. The 120x has everything I could possibly need to have some fun with, and I'm really looking forward to giving my small vinyl collection a spin

Couldn't agree more. I co-owned a pair of 1200's a few years ago and my mate moved to Australia and bought my share of them. I recently got the itch to mix again, and bought some LP120's. For the price, they are more than adequate and capable. I've had them for just over two years and they are still going strong.

For me the most DJ friendly, well thought out, and ahead of it's time deck produced since Technics was the Vestax PDX-D3.. Powerful motor, variable pitch fader settings, digital pitch display, variable pitch bend and jog toggle control, reverse, and the first to use the removeable target light. The massive downside though was the chipwood cabinet.

I think most of us back in the day started out with some dodgy decks, i had an SL-23, which was not too bad for a belty, paired with some dodgy pioneer which didnt even have a pitch control, then a set of KAM BDXs i picked up cheap, which were not much better. Then life took a different route, djing went out the window and i never did get to own a pair of the technics, had plenty of plays on them tho. I recently got back into it all, glad i kept my vinyl, one thing i never parted with. I was looking at getting the reloop 7000s, but then i came across the audio technica lp1240, pretty much the same, just another super oem. But for £200 each, brand new boxed, it was a no-brainer really, so i went with a pair of them. Basically got a pair of them for less than the price of a single reloop7000. Happy with what i got, no regrets.

I find this very useful. Thx, tempted to get a reloop rp-7000 mk2 but that pitch problem seems to be an issue given the fact that i just wanna use it for mixing in techno and house. @robsemail

Another point about torque is the effect on back-cueing. The 1200 needs a bit of space to get up to speed, so if - for example - you want to play a record all the way out to a cold ending, then hit the very next beat dead on as you start the next record, it’s a bit of a trick. You need at least a half-turn to get to full speed, meaning you need to hit the start button sooner, and it’s fairly easy to get the timing wrong or at least imperfect. With the Reloop set to its middle position (12 o’clock) you barely need 1/8 turn, which means you can wait to hit the start button until the split second when you want to hear that first note. You can nail the segue dead on every time!

@FSwiftDJ 5 жыл бұрын
It depends if your mixing records or not , if your performance DJ yes you might need high torque motors , but too much high torque pressure on any turntable motor will not be great mixing records , Technics has balance of everything really that's why it's industry standard

FSwift DJ mixing has to do with more with the pitch than the torque. Which is why the pitch drive is the most important thing. High torque makes you faster getting the music to the right bpm . But if you worked on the 1200 all your life and then Blend music with a plx1000 you can do it effectively

@@hot4futureyears2come you can mix records with digital pitch even on plx1000 etc but as all club vinyl djs will say, original Analog pitch is just better with the finer pitch adjustments , they all have same pitch in Technics just that new models use a binary system that counts in block whole steps then in half etc with Analog pitch , that's why digital pitch turntable won't stay in without pitch movement every few seconds or so compared to Analog pitch , you can move the plater etc with Analog pitch to keep it in time also , with digital pitch like plx1000 it just goes all over the place with original Technics your not constantly chasing the tempo Your on point , with digital modern turntable your chasing the tempo too much that hinders your fader or mixer creative flow if I can put that more clear lol

I have a pair of the original rp8000's. I mix vinyl and love the lcd display of the pitch for fine beat matching. With technics and rp7000 you kind of guess how much you moved the slider. When beatmatching by ear you can quickly move the fader in tiny increments and know you didnt nudge it too much. This helps when your trying to blend records fast. I can keep 2 records matched for over a minute with the rp8000 before manipulating the platters...not all the time though...same goes for MK5.

I like how you didn't go in to great detail about the history of the technics.. I'm sure there was other direct drive decks at the time but they weren't technics.. i saw a hip hop documentary and a budding young american dj who was forever experimenting with electronics one day went in to a shop like rumbelows and was looking for a turntable that can get up to speed very quickly and found the technics did that.. i guess technics realised what they had and improved on that turntable which meant it was going to be used pretty much everywhere.. radio stations and clubs ... that young american dj was grandwizzard theodore.. the turntable was possibly an original 1200 designed for home use.. it was the bees knees... the rolls royce of dj turntables ..everyone who dj'd had to have the technics...it was the rolex watch equivalent...

You mean the 8000s? The 7000s are purist like techies. 8000s are the ones with extra sound features for laptops. I have both. Reloops are equal if not better . But they are super oem means they have a restless pitch not suited for extend mixes into techno and electronic oriented setups. They are tard better suited for battle and scratch. Techies if in good condition hold the pitch longer. Tho you would not be dissapointed. They have excellent sound quality. Check the unseen heroes (mixars sta) half the price of reloop.exact same motor and features .

@@moralrevulsionLive BS. It's proven fact that the PLX1000 is only suitable for timecodes or fast/short vinyl transitions, due to it's digital pitch. Yes digital pitch is good for stability of the platter speed, but the steps in the pitch adjustment are obvious to a good vinyl DJ. None of the Hanpin / super oem decks have the tiny pitch adjustment capability of the Technics Mk2/M3d/Mk5 analogue pitch sliders. That is fact, and they do not hold two vinyl records perfectly beatmatched anywhere near as long as original Technics do. All other turntables apart from Technics use the same Hanpin motor, so they are basically the same. Some just have a few extra features, that is all. The Technics M5g and all models after that, also have digital pitch adjustment, and are not as good as original Technics system.

@DjNikGnashers
@DjNikGnashers 4 жыл бұрын
@@noobslayerr9732 So, PLX1000 are 'much superior' than original Technics are they ? How about you discuss 'how' they are better, instead of just posting a bullshit bro' science view without any detail or factual proof to back it up. I started DJ-ing in 1980, and still DJ now. I think I'm qualified to call myself a 'vinylist' whatever that is. PLX1000 have more torque (just the same as every other Hanpin motor deck, because they all have the same motor, are you following), but more torque is only good for DJ's who want the platter to keep spinning as they put pressure on it ie scratch/HipHop/Turntablism DJ's, as I already said. It is not a benefit for a vinyl DJ who does long transitions, like house, techno, trance, etc, because the digital pitch moves in larger steps than the analogue pitch slider in a Technics Mk2, M3d, or Mk5. That is a fact. I have used every turntable released, and I mean EVERY different one. The PLX1000 is exactly the same to mix on as the Stanton's, Reloop's, Audio Technica, Denon, Sony, Numark, and a load more. They use the same motor. The differences are in the extra features, and tonearm quality. Every Hanpin motored deck, has the same digital pitch, which is not even half as accurate as the original Technics analogue fader (which still controls a binary / digital circuit, but the adjustment is a lot finer). Sit a well looked after set of 1200Mk2 next to a set of PLX1000, and see how long the Pioneers keep the beats matched without you having to constantly chase the pitch fader to keep them in time. You might never find the exact sweet spot, because it could be in a gap between adjustment steps. On a Mk2, you CAN get it bang on, and they WILL stay locked together for 2 or 3 minutes with practise. If you cannot understand why this is a correct opinion, based on fact, then you are too stupid to even discuss this subject.

Great demonstration and comparison, totally liked, but as many others you did not mention the large advantage of mkii having sub chassis that makes it like rock. If you knock at the top of reloop you will hear high pitch sound but when you knock a mkii it is rock solid. Of course mkii does not worth second hand all that money they ask for all the reasons you mentioned… I totally vote for reloop…
