LOL ~ I love her hair. True story: My mom ❤ had 5 girls with long hair. My mom would look at her 5 tomboys (not a bad thang) and say, "go brush your hair it looks like a birds nest." 🐦 ... also, not a bad thang...🐥🐦 I'm very close to celebrating my 70th. Birthday & I would love to have Ell's thick. Beautiful hair, birds, Intelligence, motivation and energy. I do have a beautiful and very sweet Cockatiel. ❤ I love elleandthebirds. I've learned a lot about our feathered friends from her and also, from so many of you all who share your experiences and knowledge with the rest of us. This channel and 2 other bird channels have helped me tremendously during this pandemic. Thank you Elle and your birds. I'm a proud subscriber and my little cockatiel has benefitted greatly. I bought her a huge 53" cage - I can't even open the shipping box, anyone with free time uhmmm... I will definitely need help putting it together. Please? 😇😊 But, I digressed...😎 ❤

this isn’t related to this video in particular, but this channel has made me realize that my bird’s living conditions weren’t the best. she had a decent sized cage, but it wasn’t the best. she only had dowel perches, and not a lot of toys (mostly because she ends up terrified of any toys i put in her cage). i just ordered her a much larger cage and some natural wood perches, as well as a set of different toys so i can see which ones she likes. i’m also going to try to get her used to a diet that’s not all seeds. thank you so much for opening my eyes so i could realize what my bird needed edit: also, the only reason we’ve had a cage that’s not the right size is because at the place we got her, they recommended that cage size. i didn’t even get her from a pet store. it was from a shop that specifically focuses on birds. maybe the people working that day just weren’t that educated

Elle, I have just received my kit from you for my new three month old lovebirds. I am so happy and feel so relieved that I am providing for them the best possible environment. I live in North Vancouver, B.C. and I could not find any natural wood perches or any healthy toys. I smiled to myself today as soon as I put the sea grass mat into the cage my two lovebirds, Blush and Rogue, hopped onto it and started swinging. The perches are wonderful. I have only had my birds three days. They are from a breeder who has raised them. Now with my love and your equipment they should have wonderful lives. Thank you Elle.

Hello Elle, i have a green (Mango) and a blueish white (Snow) budgie. We bought Mango from a pet store 2 months ago. But my mom caught Snow. Usually,in our country the birds who live outside are grey. So my mom was inside,looking at her plants,and Snow caught her eye. A very tiny white bird! The birds who live outside flies away when we open the door. But when my mom opened the door Snow did not run away,it seemed like she was looking for food. My mom quickly put a lid on the flower pot and suprised me with her! She was very slim but she could fly better than Mango so i thought she was just slim but older than mango. I quickly gave her food and put mango out of the cage because mango would not let her eat. But now they are best friends! It was just 4 days since we found Snow and i already hand tamed her ;) she loves to fly and she exersices a lot. Mango also flies a lot now ! :) I’m planning to get a bigger cage. My cousin says i’m very lucky beacause white birds are rare. Also the blueish part of her feathers is a bit purplish! I think she will have purple feathers when she’s elder because every two days her color gets more purple. I think she’s a girl because her cere is white. But the main question is: Should i let her have a bath? Like you said* in one video,i let mango bathe in the mist. Should i let snow do it too?
@lizziehn59283 жыл бұрын
Birds should bath at least once every few days, if they're up to it. Each has their own preferences when it comes to bathing as well. Some options are >> - Lightly spraying with a bottle (aimed above the bird) - A shower perch not directly in the line of water - A bowl filled with water from a sink, or just a regular bowl of water - Wet veggies in a bowl. They sometimes like to rub up against em When they want to bath, they'll spread their feathers out when near water. As for the cere, young males have white ceres iirc. Best of luck!

Hi Elle! I just wanted to say I appreciate your respectful and gentle approach to taming birds. I grew up with many birds, my parents were parrot breeders. We had a huge converted garage and patio that were walk-in aviaries. We did our best to honor and take exceptional care for our birds. I hate to see birds in pet stores that are sold with very little thought in the birds needs or considering their very long life spans! Anyhow, I just got a parrotlet after wanting one for years but I was feeling rusty. I haven’t had a bird for close to ten years. I am working to hand tame my bird and I saw SO many videos that encourage what I call the “struggle snuggle” which is forcing the bird into your hand to essentially teach them helplessness. Our birds were all very well socialized when I was a kid so having an unsocialized bird is new territory for me! Forcing my affection on a scared animal felt so counter intuitive and disrespectful so I appreciate your advice and approach! I am a teacher and teach children consent every day. As a strong believer in giving animals and humans free will and respect, I couldn’t condone the use of force to tame my bird. Anyway, long story short, I appreciate your advice!
@lizziehn59283 жыл бұрын
That technique sounds incredibly cruel, and can cause fears and phobias of hands later in life. Unfortunately, there's a lot of sketchy taming "advice" out there. Instead of forcing, birds feel much more comfortable going at their own pace. Spending lots of time with the bird, proving treats, and creating a relaxed environment can really help a bird feel comfortable. So happy to see people like you in this community!

So Elle it would mean a lot if u could read this.... Soooo... My mom had a lot of birds as a kid and I’ve been wanting one for like... FOREVER. So I used your channel and other things to educate myself and I’m getting a green cheeked conure or cockatiel for Christmas!!! I’m so excited and I just wanted to thank you because without you I would be so uneducated! I love birds and I will spend so much time with my bird! Thank you so so so much!

People need to stop believing pet shop employees when I got a bird they said an only seed diet was extremely healthy and they recommended to use it. The same with my hamster but they said fluffy bedding is safe and a tiny cage was “ the perfect size” Yes they may be right sometimes but do your research before trusting them.

I was getting toys a couple days ago at Petco for my budgie, the woman who helped us was actually pretty experienced and was upset that the stores kept selling bad things like small cages for birds, hamsters etc. Ofc I already knew about the cages but without her I wouldn't have known that mirror toys were bad, so thanks to the random Petco girl :D
