My husband and I were at Carlson Brothers in Tacoma, WA looking at their beautiful Ellensburg Blues. I tried on several rings and fell in love with pretty much all of them😀

Mr. Zentner, you ought to see if you can ever get on the property where Holly Blue is found near Sweet Home Oregon. The logging company has cut off the area to the public. One person to start with is my brother to get some info. He took me there once to dig Holly Blue before the area was shut down. Interesting area.

Awesome! That was really educational and super neat for him to allow you to record and video this. I would just love more of these where you learn about how to look for any particular rock/mineral/gem in the "wild" and how it presents in the raw. Carl is super neat!

Great video like always. Thanks to Mr Carlson and of course Nick. I'm learning a lot and wish I knew some of this when I was a kid riding motorcycles all over the area. At least I saved some agates and quartz stuff 50 years ago, I need to get them out for a new look. I hope we don't see any more political flags though.

Cabochons have axis orientation for the cut especially opals and fire agate and many other stones, as for labradorite feldspar including moonstones orientation for best cut and cab is necessary for the visual effect you wish to achieve on cabbing the stone for its beauty. Hmmm... I've found very similar looking blue agate, perhaps slightly darker, east of Medford, Oregon. But it was out of hydrothermal tubes passing through basalt.

I too found similar blue agate in Spray, OR. Also chert pieces, rainbow colors at a place where Indians supposedly made arrows.

Nick should as his quarry is just over the border @ Midway BC about 4 hours drive from Ellisberg, We got 8 kgs and a Museum Specimen @ 5 kgs when the Family first worked the claim.Prices have climb since 2019 but with far more colours.

In the works, along with some non fossilized mineral speciums. Fossilized speciums requires both Federal and Provincial permits. 1 to 2 years.Also sending Nick another book .This one by Dale Leckie, The Scenic Geology Of Alberta. His latest book (June 2021 ) was recommended to us and is featured in our Fly Fishing site! Many of our River's in Alberta cut through some awesome places. Geology and Geography abounds floating down Alberta 's River's it is great for Sole and Mind. People like Nick Zendner, Dale Leckie and Ben Gadd must be named as respected National Treasures.

I'd love to hear more about its structure. Average crystallite size or is it amorphous silica? Are you aware of any research papers that are freely available? A great read is Studies on Agate by Terry Moxon.

Another great segment, thanks Nick. As it happens we were driving over Swauk pass that morning on the way from southern Utah to Everett. Saw the signs for the miners meeting and stopped by, but missed Carl’s presentation. One question I had looking at the crystals in the magnifications, is it the hexagonal Quarz or the monocline form (moganite) of SiO2?

Since Elly's contain zircons can you use zircon magnetics as to find out generally where this came from, and since zircons are aligned and have poles could that alter the flow of liquid sort of like a ferrofluid

I don't understand the time sequence between when the volcanic eruption happens originally, and when the hot material that eventually forms into agates happens--- does it make no difference? Can it be millions of years, or is this a function of the later cooling process?
