This song is a good reminder that Elliot was probably the best lyric writer of his generation. The melodies are always insane but man that guy could write lyrics. Love you Elliott

I had a dream last night where I decided I must listen to this song before I put on my cassette tape I had lost and just found again. I was on a big ol bus. And that's why I'm here right now. This is so very beautiful.

first song i ever heard of his & my favorite to this day. so hauntingly beautiful. he was truly one of the greatest songwriters of all time.

Damn, Figure 8, figure 8 alternate, Everythings Okay, and then this version. All are so gorgeous, it’s impressive how he could stick with a song through the years, knowing it’s potential and exploring every nook of it until he’d mapped out every possible route. If I spend more than a month reworking a song i just ruin it or get tired of it and never return. There’s a lesson here, have confidence in your work, if it sounded good to you when you first wrote it then it must have something special which is worth seeing through.

one of the best elliot smith songs in my opinion. remember my dad playing this on cd for me at our summer cottage in the woods. there is something so haunting and beautiful about this track that just reminds me of the warmth of a wood burning stove on rainy august nights. so criminally underrated.
