Not really. I'm a lefty and i literally don't care who owns twitter. Tesla has greatly benefitted from government subsidies, AKA welfare. When elon does drugs its because he's cool, rich and dgaf. But when people suggest raising taxes suddenly welfare only benefits drug addicted homeless people. I dont think Elon is a bad person. But his cool laid back persona is 100% intentional to make young people sympathize with the wealthy and see welfare as a bad thing. You don't have to freak out and quit twitter to say that, but its good to keep in mind.

@@squal6216 sour grapes? Anyway, almost if not every organized body on earth with a billion dollars meets that description. Anyone whose name you know, really, has had a direct hand in shaping mass perception of them for their benefit. It doesn't feel, to me, like there's any motivated reason to single out and hate Elon Musk in particular.

This whole situation reminds me of a kind of philosophical viewpoint that a Batman comic taught me about once; People DON'T want change. They say they do but only merely jump to social media to say their piece and pretend like they're helping by "spreading the word". Realistically they're doing jackshit. The problem with spreading awareness about crises and political frustrations through social media is that 99% of people will see it, maybe interact with that tweet, then scroll past it and forget about the whole thing 10 minutes later. This is what I mean by people don't want change - they only want to maintain the status quo. The people who want real change aren't venting on Twitter 24/7, they're out there trying to build *something* for the less fortunate people in their areas. If you ever think that waiting around for the government or some billionaire to magically solve all the world's problems is going to lead to real change then you're going to be waiting a VERY long time.
@huxleyleodwalding5751
@huxleyleodwalding5751 2 жыл бұрын
True! Billionaires and governments won't ever change the world to suit your needs, they will change it to suit their needs. Eg: lobbying for more wars so their company can have greater profit margins, congressmen voting against bills to make the insider trading of government officials illegal. The material conditions of the owning class (bourgeoise) make them have diametrically opposed incentives to your own. You cannot rely on the billionaires to fix the world. DIY.
@1Plebeian
@1Plebeian 2 жыл бұрын
Even if they wanted to solve the problem, they couldn't. Money dosen't heal the problem it just covers it for a *very* short amount of time. Unless you are going to fully subsidize people for their lifetimes, there is no curing poverty and homelessness.

At this rate just give 100k to each hobo and see if they can fix their own shit. That’s rent for a year, a car, insurance, legal documents and groceries no issues. When people are upset at rich people for not fixing our system it’s a direct representation of how our government is failing us.
@Meliaison
@Meliaison 2 жыл бұрын
It is never going to be that simple. I dont think anyone reasonably thinks it is solely up to rich people to solve all the worlds problems. What they can solve is the way they structure their companies, how they treat their employees, and what they bribe/lobby politicians to do. Also, it is indisputable that people depend on their jobs in order to survive. Look at Amazon for example, Amazon does not give their people sufficient breaks, sufficient pay, and actively discourages employees from unionizing. Then they are also breaking supply chains by not paying truck drivers enough to support their career, truck drivers often dont own their own trucks, but are still saddled with all the gas expenses and maintenance of owning a truck. Their net salary on average comes to be 30,000. Would you want to be a truck driver working way beyond the hours needed for a 9-5 job, driving across country, being away from family all hours of the day, and being barely able to afford the clothes off your back? I know I wouldnt. It is part of the reason we literally cant have nice things. Then rich people evade taxes which would further enable the government to improve public infrastructure, and rich people dont advocate for the interest of the people and instead for their own self-interest which is just making more money. It is weird to expect the government to make changes when we are funding them to protect the interests of billionaires by supporting oligopolies. It is also weird to expect rich people to give a shit about anyone else but themselves. Elon, like other billionare, doesnt give a fuck about anyone plain and simple

@@Meliaison It is weird to expect anyone to give a shit about you, period. This is not exclusive to rich people. To think otherwise is the height of naivety. If you want change, stop breeding and making stupid common man decisions and become a billionaire yourself. Bribe the politicians in the direction that you think is the best, and stop expecting others to do the work for you. Or just become a politician yourself, who knows, you might become something big. "Ohhh, but no one can just randomly become a billionaire, easier said than done" Exactly! Did you think that billionaire's just sat on their asses doing nothing to get to where they are? No, they worked their ass off and used their brains to think. Ah, I'm not talking specifically to you @Melanie S.
@Meliaison
@Meliaison 2 жыл бұрын
@@universecreator988 I appreciate that that you specified that this isnt specifically targetted to me lol but again, I disagree that is that simple. "Just become a billionaire yourself" is easy to say but hardwork alone wont make you one. There is a reason why the 1% are the 1%. A lot of billionaires come from families that already have money or assets. Elon Musk is a great example of this. Even Jeff Bezos had money from his parents to start his company. Donald trump was given a "small" loan of a million dollars in his words. If every hardworker could become a billionaire, then we would have no shortage of them. However, to become a billionaire you also continue to perpetuate the cycle by cutting businesses expenses where you can and that often leads the exploitation of people and their labor for which their families depend on. For example, the produce pickers in immokalee, FL are very hardworkers and can barely live to support themselves much less their family. Yet publix has refused to give them another cent for each produce they pick. They have been campaigning for years now. And I do personally try to do what I can. I am trying to save up for the future but who knows if I'll ever become a millionaire in my lifetime. I have personally shown up to house sessions to give my piece on something to improve the standards for others after my family has already been victimized by current laws. And you know what happened? Nothing yet. Opposing insurance lobbyists pay politicians that can decide whether or not the topic is even added to the senate schedule. And I have to drive about 8 hours with less than 48 hour notice to show up, have a boss kind enough to let me take time off of work with such short notice , wait another 6 hours just so I can speak for one minute. Our political and economic system is broken. Progress takes years and years and especially for lone individuals. Again, nothing is ever that simple. Pulling yourself by your bootstraps is often not enough by itself. Im not saying you shouldn't try but to have realistic expectations for people

It means you shouldn’t look down on them or shame them for it. Because the same people that go to clubs and enjoy those women are the ones who shame them for working the only job they could get. Sex work isn’t some grab for glory or even a good thing at all, but you shouldn’t shame the people who are sex workers because the job is dangerous, and most of them not all but a vast majority don’t even want to be sex workers.

You literally have 16-17 year olds in hs faking their older on only fans or making private twitters. Personally I have nothing against sex work it’s just I rather respect people who do it because they are in really tough situations and they desperately have to find an option to stay on their feet and they have to do that stuff but I don’t respect people who follow the media and just do it because their lazy or they let influencers coerce them into doing it. Charity (past the lower class on the street charity work which is admirable) is a money laundering scheme. Billionaire X donates to charity Y which he/she owns/has stakes in so the money never leaves their sight then they spend a tiny fraction on "goods" (a few shipping containers of supplies) to make it seem they're doing something then, after the attention dies down the money is siphoned off into off shore accounts again.
@gigachad3925
@gigachad3925 2 жыл бұрын
The reason is that charity is not proper reform. It's like the saying about teaching a man to fish vs giving him a fish. What should really happen is social and economic reform that creates larger social safety nets and better incentive structures for jobs. This has to be paired with education reform and at least something that resembles universal health care, though I understand how hard that last reform can be to implement. Homeless/poor people are not inherently lazy. They will work their asses off if given the foundation to do so. The real reason charities don't fix issues is that they feed off the status quo that is already unequal. Think about it. The only way charities can be self sustaining is if there are still ultra poor people who need help, and there are still ultra rich people who can donate.

For real like where the hell is all this supposd food that the money will supposidely be buying come from? or are the hungry and homeless people just supposed to eat the money itself. People dont understand its not actually money itself that will fix these issues but the re-allocatioin of time, resources, and labor, better education, and stuff like better agricultural systems in place that will do it. the money might be a means towards getting those things but its not as simple as just throwing 46 billion dollars to some random person and boom, food suddenly appears...
