“And she must be the only QUEEN who wears Ann Taylor” The fact that he delivers that line and the reply “it’s quite refreshing actually” completely deadpan when they ask him about no longer being the most hysterical queen in the room had me snorting and laughing. He’s got a way better sense of humour than I thought 😁

He even flashed her a dirty look after the Ann Taylor reference. Most hosts never look away from the cue cards. For a person who has never done this type of show before, he killed it.

He was hosting this episode. This skit was 3 quarters into the show so I'd say the audience were pretty use to seeing Elton John appear on-stage.

"Shut up" lol that always kills me. Thank God for KZfaq as they don't screen SNL in the UK. Bill Hader and the other chap (sorry!) do the Sex Pistols / Clash sound really well considering they're American. And Hader's cockney accent is impeccable.

+Cloud Cuckoo Well, Fred Armisen (the other chap) was in punk band in the 90s. He is really a big fan of punk counterculture. Plenty of his skits, alongside Hader, revolving around his punk music influence.

Haders not actually playing, I'm not sure if Fred Armisen is playing here, because there are no mics on the kit but he can actually play pretty well. As Brian said, Fred was in a punk band.

Yep. Armisen is great. I haven't seen him show up on Seth Meyer's show in a while but he has subbed in Seth's Late Night band a bunch of times on drums and guitar. Would love to see him back.

@@Random_Wierdo. Well, its because Ann Taylor is the kind of clothing which, for the lack of better words, would be worn by a mid level career woman. Like a manager. Someone who is important, but looking to be MORE important. In other words, still climbing the ladder of her success. Ann Taylor is known as a brand that specializes in clothes that are in fashion but a more subdued version of it. Her clothes are very...well, corporate uniform. Something a woman would wear because she feels she HAS to for her job, not because she WANTS to or that it would be her personal style. Naturally, one would assume a queen would wear an ensemble by a top designer. And of course, custom made and not off the rack.

Fred's ear for music is so fluid and it makes me love his soul even more. Also hearing Elton John singing punk, knowing he is from England and was a huge front runner in the music world by the time punk came along gets me in a musically vibrant feel. Looked like it gave him a moment of mild catharthis being able to perform this way,even for a minute.

Love Elton growling. It’s amazing how his voice still is so lovely but how he can still get the raw and angry vibes. And I’m not even really someone who could be considered a fan... but he’s great. Also I wonder exactly how nervous Bill and Fred were about playing this.
