One of my favorites by Elton... learned it around 1974 or 75. I don't think I ever heard it on the radio...

What an amazing song. The perfect mix of lyrics and music - I wish he would play this one more often at the live shows.

Very clever song, this. Elton's left hand providing the constant 'tick' by playing in octaves rhythmically adds great effect. Brilliant.

I just recently heard this song within the month. It is such a great song and it was WAYYYYY before it's time. Think Columbine... this was before that happened and it was nearly the same! It's an amazing song.

This was a real sleeper on that album. By far one of his best songs but seemed to be included on the B side as an afterthought. My favorite piece of piano music from that era and an incredibly tragic lyrical masterpiece by Bernie T.

What a powerful song! Bernie's inspired lyrics interwoven with Elton's voice and piano. This song is so poignant. To think it is only one of a string of masterpieces from a pair of composers at the height of their creative powers in the seventies. At their best i do not think their is anyone to better them.

Nothing tops the original from the Caribou album. He is in fine form here but the piano playing on the original is beyond brilliant

Before it's time. Unfortunately no. Senseless violence and gun deaths have been part of our country for a long time. It is so sad that we still have it, more than ever.
