It's fun watching the young finding out about the Elvis so many of us have known in detail for 50 and 60+ years! Thanks Rory!

If you like, listen to Iain Matthews' version kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gteRddGWsaucp40.html a yr. before Elvis -- quite bland, lacking the emotion that Elvis gave to his songs.

Even as a child I was very aware that Elvis was a master at intonation and emoting - singing so softly and then wailing and everything inbetween. Some artists with great voices seem to favor belting it out for the entire song.

So true about belting it out for the entire song; to me that almost makes it seem like those singers are forcing themselves, whereas Elvis displayed the soft, quiet side then in a matter of a second gave his power punch only to go soft again. What a difference!

This was great to have both the studio and live version. He sang a few more lines in the studio. I love his live stuff better, too. Amazing how he sings just as well or better when he is moving around and cutting up. Thank you so much. I love your Elvis reactions.🎉❤

Info found -- Written by Alan Blaikley and Ken Howard (under the pen name 'Steve Barlby') for Iain Matthews, originally recorded in 1969 & released on Matthews' first solo album after leaving Fairport Convention: Matthews' Southern Comfort -- Iain Matthews version kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gteRddGWsaucp40.html so very different than Elvis -- it's quite a bland version, not the emotion & power Elvis always sang with.

“I’ve Lost You,” was written by Ken Howard and Alan Blakely, a journeyman British pop team, brought in by long-time song plugger Freddy Bienstock, who by now had a host of English publishing interests of his own. The song served to extend Elvis’ new adult image (husband, lover, father, with a range of concerns that accompanied each of those roles).

I grew up only hearing his movie songs, and radio, and record recordings. Nothing beats watching him perform any song live! Never heard the other versions you mentioned. I’m sure they were done with much more advanced technology. You also have to consider what different influences have guided later artists. Compare an Elvis performance from the middle to late 1950’s, to any songs from 30-40 years earlier..laughable! Guess who they will still be talking about in another 40 years?

Love this live version. But Elvis reached his vocal peak in 1960-65.

Sorry i have to disagree; he had an amazing '68, a great '69 (Vegas unfortunately not professionally filmed), a fantastic '70, especially w-his glass shattering finish to "Tomorrow Never Comes" -- '72 was also terrific - Greensboro, NC, Hampton Roads, San Antonio

Not positive about this but i remember emailing a suggestion to you in January mentioning to use this particular link because there is another version where the little sound of the electric equipment going off was deleted & so his surprised expression wouldn't make sense. Thanks so much.

Great reaction to another song by Elvis. The song was originally written by Alan Blaikley and Ken Howard and released by Iain Matthews in 1969. Elvis's version was released in July, 1970 and was certified gold. Personally, I way prefer Elvis's version. Iain's version is here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hZZ8iKdn3re7aIE.html

One of the few Elvis songs the studio version was actually better - this, patch it up, Just Pretend and Funny How Times Slips Away are the only 4 I can think off.
