If you want to know the true Elvis, watch the Searcher on Netflix. You will finally see who Elvis was behind what c.parker put in front of everyone. He had talent and musical brilliance that connected every race and genre throughout every generation. He is what brought music to us all. We tend to forget that because of all the crap Elvis was forced to paint his life with to be heard. That you both for playing this truly spectacular performance on your channel.

Elvis had this song written for him in 1968 to be the final song in his 1968 TV special. This video is of an additional filming he did in the studio with no audience. He wore a white suit rather than one of his typical concert costumes. He dedicated this song to MLK and his quest for a dream. Elvis grew up in poverty in primarily black neighborhoods in Tupelo, MO and Memphis, TN. He sang gospel at a local, black Baptist church in Memphis while in high school. Check out a video "Elvis and the Black Community".

Great lyrics so inspiring and positive " If I Can Dream " . Right on Elvis, you left the world with a gem of a performance , and good to see the recognition your receiving for it . Thankyou.

I had lunch with George Klein (Elvis best friend)about 15 years ago. We got on to the subject of this performance. He told me that Elvis was very upset over the asassinations of MLK AND BOBBY KENNEDY, and wanted to end the show with a tribute song. Colonel Parker wanted a Christmas song. Elvis was persistent and ended the show with what I believe is the greatest live performance of all time. Whatever the reason, or what we believe, we can agree he was ahead of his time, and also, this is what I was told by his best friend. and Yes , he was so emotional after the performance, that he went backstage and cried.

"I'm really lost for words on this one." What an amazing reaction to this phenomenal song. This tribute to Dr Martin Luther King Jr. is from his 1968 Comeback Special, and as you noted, Elvis sang with so much conviction and passion. He admired Dr King (some Elvis fans tend to claim that they were friends but there's no substantiated proof of this) and was devastated to hear of his murder. Such a shame that a 1968 song with a message about racial reconciliation remains too relevant today. I really appreciated your reaction and I hope you enjoy checking out Elvis: during his 1954-1977 career, he sang just about every genre of music: from country to rock n roll, gospel, rhythm and blues and pop.

I’m so happy Elvis is being discovered by people who only know the caricature of him. He is the greatest singer of the 20th century. As John Lennon said, “ Before Elvis, there was nothing.” If you weren’t alive in the ‘60s, it’s hard to realize how decisive and tumultuous the times were. Elvis was very patriotic and mourned the deaths of MLK and RFK. MLK was killed in Memphis, Elvis’s hometown and he always said MLK spoke the truth. This song was a tribute to both leaders and used words from MLK’s I Have a Dream speech. Elvis sang his heart out. He did not perform this song after because it was meant to be a special tribute.

Don’t feel bad you didn’t know Elvis could sing like this. I got into Elvis after watching the movie and I can’t stop watching his performances now. I had no idea he could sing like this. Everyday I keep finding one great performance after another.

I love to watch people react to this Elvis performance. Elvis loved these types of songs. He won 3 grammies for his live inspirational/gospel live performances. He won the lifetime Grammy at age 36 then died 6 years later. His mom died of the same gemetic heart defect he had. He really lived his life to the fullest and should have taken better care of himself. The man sang one of his greatest songs ..a live performance where he plays the piano and sings "Unchained Melody". He was ill and still doing live performances. He died 6 weeks later...I was 24 and remember hearing the news on the radio while at my mom's house. We were all stunned. It was the same shock as watching the planes fly into the twin towers. It was on everyone's minds for a long time.

With all the hate and racist bullshit happening today, this video should be shown on every television network around the world, every single day! People HAVE to hear Elvis' words and maybe, just maybe, the world can live that dream.

I can't express how unbelievably touched to see this great man being reintroduced and introduced to those who never knew of him. He revolutionized the culture and music as we know it today. The movie was the vehicle that started the re-emergence and I am so grateful for all that made it possible. It brought Elvis back to where he should have been all this time.
