---------
Lyrics:
As the snow flies
On a cold and gray Chicago mornin'
A poor little baby child is born
In the ghetto
And his mama cries
'cause if there's one thing that she don't need
it's another hungry mouth to feed
In the ghetto
People, don't you understand
the child needs a helping hand
or he'll grow to be an angry young man some day
Take a look at you and me,
are we too blind to see,
do we simply turn our heads
and look the other way
Well the world turns
and a hungry little boy with a runny nose
plays in the street as the cold wind blows
In the ghetto

This song is my song for describing me living in a group home after having a troubled family relationship over the years. I’m 25 now and I was admitted to a cultural group home in Valley Stream, New York in 2020 during the Covid20 pandemic. I have PTSD from being in a residential school in Upstate New York for 3 years from 2014-2017 and I was abused there. I never went to college after I graduated from that institution. Now in 2024 I don’t have any friends my age and I have been separated from my family for years. I have been in the group home for 4 years now since 2020 and I want to get out soon. I want to be closer to my parents again but they are getting older and my dad doesn’t get along with me. I hope my family realizes that I want to reunite with them and be discharged from the group home one day so I can be happy and enjoy life again. God Bless All. Matty. ❤️ 💐

My mama shared his birthday.... She loved his music. She passed away on January 6th 2020 ...2 days shy of that shared birthday. I was born during a time in my Mama's life when things were not easy for her and daddy and somehow she always made certain I had clothes on my back and supper on the table. I watched her work two jobs for little pay and she managed. That woman was my best friend. I'm playing the song again and I hope you are singing along with me...RIP mama

I kept hoping the whole movie they’d show him playing it, because it’s my favorite Elvis song! Then the credits rolled and I clapped when I heard it playing. If Austin Butler doesn’t win an Oscar for that performance, I’d boycott the Academy! Some critics have been way too hard on this film, only because they’d rather hear themselves talk than actually witness a beautiful film.

You're correct, Elvis sung the hell out of this song, but sadly a Black man got ripped-off. John W. Anderson wrote this song. He went to Mac Davis, because he knew Mac was a friend of Elvis. He told Mac that he had a hit song for Elvis and he would share the profits with Mac. Instead Mac Davis took the song to Elvis and said that he wrote it. If you want to compare the writing of this song to Anderson's other songs look for him under, John Kasondra Anderson or John W. Anderson. Or, look up the song 'Mose'.

I worked on Elvis's last 2 tours. (Didn't ask, but was assigned). When he played this song, you could feel the audience's love, they would sit/stand quietly until it was over, then a wild round of applause and tears that could be seen from the stage ❤️
