@real american Black males are stepping up more today than in the past 60 years and taking responsibility for the children they bring into this world. I'm as politically incorrect as anyone (look at my screen name) and I call it like I see it, both good and bad. In the case of black males raising their kids, I see the good many are now doing.

@Cobb Knobbler Yes political policies? LOL It's the fear of something different, or unknown that is the biggest reason why racism, or hate for a different group happens. Right behind that is ignorance.

@@punkem733 As long as you see yourself as a victim, there's no hope. If you do three simple things, it's virtually impossible to be poor in America. 1)Graduate from high school 2) Don't have kids out of wedlock 3) Get a job. Any job. That's it, just those three very doable and everyday things, and you won't be poor. Until the black community takes responsibility for the harm they are inflicting on themselves by ignoring these rules, no amount of govt handouts will ever change anything, and more kids will live and die just like the one in this song.

@@mckrackin5324 That depends on one's definition of "well". He generously gave money and things away without seeking publicity to anyone or cause he thought needed it. 2 examples of many: He bought his long-time cook a house. At a car dealership he saw someone get refused for a loan to buy a car; Elvis bought and gave the car to that person. Of course, if "well" means enriching oneself, then no, he hemorrhaged money. He used his celebrity, and its freedom of wealth, for more good than any other celebrity, IMO; he helped change the social and music culture for the better. But, because of his status no one could say "no" to him, which was to his personal detriment (health not handled well) that led to his premature demise.

Elvis actually fought his manager and record company to record this song. He wanted to draw attention to the issues that society was facing especially for black kids growing up in the ghettos and the lack of opportunities and support for them. Elvis understood the struggle and had friends as well as many members of his team that were black and he witnessed their struggles despite their success in their professions through their work with him. (Not to mention that he was intimately involved with one of his black backup singers for several years, as confirmed by his ex-wife and the woman in question. He was THE KING! 😋)

He bought homes for people, gave away cars to total stangers. All for the joy of giving, just making people happy. A very unselfish man. In fact the great James Brown said along with Muhammad Ali who spoke at his funeral said there wasn't a mean bone in his body. So many that knew him said that he was the most respectful the most generous person they ever knew. Like someone else mentioned in the comments, he never forgot the dirt poor time he was raised and he never forgot those that were still there. The powers-that-be did not want him to do this song because they said it wouldn't be good. He said he was going to do it whether anybody likes him doing it or not. You're right he is the most talented the most versatile singer that God ever graced us with. Thank you man love you

At the time of his death, Presley's net worth was around $4.9 million, which by today's standards is equal to $19.6 million. When he died, Presley's ex-wife Priscilla Presley took control of his estate, the entirety of which was left to her and Elvis Presley's only child, Lisa Marie Presley. A few years after his death, Lisa Marie’s mother and the rocker’s ex-wife, Priscilla Presley, took control of the estate. By 1989, she grew it to more than $75 million, with approximately $15 million in gross income annually. When Lisa Marie turned 25 years old and inherited the estate in 1994, it was worth an estimated $100 million. Today, Elvis Presley’s net worth has risen to an estimated $300 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth. Forbes cited his 2016 earnings at $27 million, which is certainly impressive, but nearly half his 2015 payday, which totaled $55 million.

Elvis loved African-American. His Heart was deep. He never shipped at "White-folk" stores. His first store he walked into to shop for clothes as a young man in highschool was an African-American store. He loved the style. The colors and the attention it brought when worn by a white boy. He loved all people and when I hear this song I Cry my heart out so badly because mine of those Mama's that tried to raise her son the best I could do and without a father... That man becomes an angry man deep inside and so this Elvis song hits home even as I speak and the struggles I am facing with my now 31yr old. Went to prison at an early age, addiction to drugs and still yet, even after pushing education and having such talent in the world of building motor bikes and art he still roams the streets with no peace in his soul. For a son to cry to his mama with words such as mine done did... "I'm Broken Mama and nothing cannot numb the pain anymore. Your son is sick and no one can't help me. Hold your son mama and please don't be angry with me". I tell you, it's not just the African-American race darlin. It's White race, Indian race and as we are half of both. And everywhere baby. Thank You for this video and for your love and kindness. Coming All the Way In from Colorado♥️♥️♥️

This song changed the trajectory of my life. I first heard it in 1969 in my teens, growing up in Germany. The fate of this li'l boy (back then I had no context at all, but somehow assumed he was black) hit me so deep, I came over from Germany after finishing high school to volunteer on St. Louis' Northside in a "ghetto" community center (with a pretty patronizing attitude, I must admit). It set me on the path of returning 25 years later to the "angry young man", back in the day on parole for CCW, who had escaped being gunned down (could have been the police, by the way, because the young man in the song is running!) who in the meantime had seen so many of his friends and family members die he suffered from PTSS (I call it: Permanent Traumatic Stress Syndrome) that he self-medicated with crack cocaine, got eventually caught when his 'hood was slated (and wiped clean) for gentrification and prematurely died in prison. And still the vicious circle continues because mainstream society does not give a f*ck.

I just saw this today. I'm 60 and know the song. Elvis is king for a reason. But it is so sad to think about how the truth to this song was not only before long before it was written but very sadly is truth to this very day. I pray when day can happen where colors of skin are an after thought when getting to know and respect each other. A time when I can see black Americans not have to cry or relate to a song like this. I believe elvis had the same belief. Come on america let's make it happen!!!.posted by a white man that has seen enough death, and racial decension. Peace out man! And love thy neighbor.

Elvis Presley grew up literally in poverty so he knows what it felt like. He played with different cultures as a child growing up in the deep South. I know I can relate to this song as well as a lot of people. Sometimes mistakes is how we learn however, to some sadly they choose not to.

Im just an old man. I was very young when this song came out, I heard it performed then. Hearing it now fills me with despair. We knew THEN what was happening. We knew THEN what needed to be done. We knew THEN how to fix it. In the intervening 50 years, nothing has changed. We have fought countless wars and funded countless others. We have exploited every resource beyond sustainability. We have set up our economy to forever funnel more and more to those who don’t need it while everyone else suffers. I will die relatively soon ashamed I didn’t do more. I can only offer a feeble apology and hope the younger generation can do better than mine

Great reference to James Brown. Very true. Both very versatile. James himself used to talk about this himself in regards to Elvis. And they friends also of course. Wish someone had video taped the night Elvis and James said side by side on a piano batch do on a 2-hour jam session together grand piano. Would still be epic music history video all these years later. Yep. Deep song here. Deep message. Always respected Elvis for using his platform to push this message. "Take don't you understand?" "The child needs a helping hand. Or do we simply turn our heads and look the other way?"

The report on the complete facts of the SONG "IF I CAN DREAM" Elvis Presley The King Elvis Presley Home Elvis Home › Graceland › Elvis News › Elvis Biography › Elvis Interviews › Sitemap › The assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in Memphis, as well as that of U.S. Senator Robert Kennedy, affected Elvis Presley deeply. These feelings led Elvis to give one of the most passionate performances of his career. America was in the midst of an upheaval in 1968. The Civil Rights movement was in full swing and our world and culture were changing. Within a short span of time, two leaders were assassinated. Dr. King was assassinated April 4, 1968, in Memphis - Elvis's hometown. Robert Kennedy, Assassinated in Los Angeles, June 6,1968, a US Senator who strongly supported human rights and social justice, was killed two months later, on June 6. It was Elvis's reaction to the news of both King and Kennedy's assassination that lead to the creation of the song 'If I Can Dream', a tribute song to King, featuring direct quotes from the Civil Rights leader. In the spring of '68, Elvis was working on his upcoming TV special, 'Elvis'. After seeing the news about Kennedy's death on TV, Elvis spent an entire night with the show's director, Steve Binder, and his friends, talking about the assassinations and Elvis's wishes for the world. The conversation was heartfelt and honest, and Binder believed Elvis had an important message for the country. Binder then went to the show's Musical Director Billy Goldenberg and songwriter Earl Brown and told them about the discussion. He wanted a powerful, meaningful song that would close out the TV special. Because the special was slated to air in December, the producers and Elvis's manager, Col. Tom Parker, had planned to end the show with a Christmas song, but Binder had other ideas. It wasn't long before 'If I Can Dream was born. Once the song was finished, Binder took the song to Elvis and played it for him. 'Let me hear it again', said Elvis, and the song was played again and again. 'Okay', Elvis said, 'I'll do it'. On June 23, 1968, Elvis recorded 'If I Can Dream in several impassioned takes, even though it is said that the first take Elvis gave was perfect. The king gave such a powerful performance that some band members were taken aback, so blown away by Elvis's performance that they had to do several retakes. It was after the band and backup singers were sent home that Elvis gave an even more astonishing performance as he re-recorded the vocals. Elvis had the lights turned off and gave himself over to the music. Over the next few takes, he fell to his knees on the concrete floor, giving himself completely to the song. After those takes, Elvis went to the control room and had his chosen take played repeatedly before he gave it his blessing. Elvis was so moved by the song and his experience with it that he told Binder, I'll never sing another song I don't believe in. I'm never going to make another movie I don't believe in'. 'If I Can Dream was featured at the end of Elvis's Singer Special (later known as the '68 Special) on December 3, 1968. This was the first time the public heard the song, and it was later released as a single with 'Edge of Reality (recorded for the film 'Live a Little, Love a Little') as its flip-side in November 1968. The single spent 13 weeks on the U.S. pop chart peaking at #12. In the U.K., it was on the chart for 10 weeks, peaking at #11. It is now a Gold Record single. Elvis Presley Lyrics Words & Music by W. Earl Brown Elvis Presley Lyrics There must be lights burning brighter somewhere Got to be birds flying higher in a sky more blue If I can dream of a better land Where all my brothers walk hand in hand Tell me why, oh why, oh why can't my dream come true There must be peace and understanding sometime Strong winds of promise that will blow away All the doubt and fear If I can dream of a warmer sun Where hope keeps shining on everyone Tell me why, oh why, oh why won't that sun appear We're lost in a cloud With too much rain We're trapped in a world That's troubled with pain But as long as a man Has the strength to dream He can redeem his soul and fly Deep in my heart there's a trembling question Still I am sure that the answer gonna come somehow Out there in the dark, there's a beckoning candle And while I can think, while I can talk While I can stand, while I can walk While I can dream, please let my dream Come true, right now Let it come true right now Oh yeah Recorded: 1968/06/23, first released on single

Big N Thank you. People need to read the back story to If I Can Dream to understand the dark times that our nation was in and how Elvis was trying to move us beyond the strife and beyond the color gap. As we know now, even an inspired and talented behemoth couldn't move the mountain that was racial bigotry, though he tried mightily by giving his heart and soul to this deeply moving and emotional performance. This performance effects us in perpetuity because of its relevance today and because it is a hauntingly searing and imploring stand alone performance by an iconic juggernaut.

@@napamoonlight9997 Thank You ....Thank You for seeing the facts as that report details .... I call on you now to read my own little feelings of what causes this term-oil .... and why it Re-Pete's .... I wrote this for .... " If I can dream " .... But it fits the whole understanding .... The reason why we still have Riots and hate and war and all the problems stem from one thing .... THE DEEP STATE .... And it's control over Main Steam Media's Lie's and propaganda put out to the people on the news networks .... They know as long as they can keep us fighting and not uniting they rule .... they stay in power as that is the ONLY thing they care about .... It is as simple as that .... Read on .... In this writing here .... You'll find just why the fighting continues and why history re-Pete's itself .... The answer .... Cause the same Deep State has been running thing and plays the same play book on the people to keep us dumb-down and under their control over and over again .... SO .... How do we stop it .... First Please read my post of ......The report on the complete facts of the SONG " IF I CAN DREAM" posted on here and every were I can ............ As the truth is always best .......... So here is a little more on the 1968 world we went through .............. Some words in the report states as follows........... The assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.... In Memphis.... As well as that of U.S. Senator Robert Kennedy ....Affected Elvis Presley deeply .... These feelings led Elvis to give one of the most passionate performances of his career. .... Keep in mind I was around though all of it and can remember it all .... And yes I remember were I was and what I was doing when John Kennedy was shot Years earlier too.... Ya I'm kind of up there .... As America was in the midst of an upheaval in 1968. The Civil Rights movement was in full swing and our world and culture were changing. Within a short span of time, two leaders were assassinated. Dr. King was assassinated April 4, 1968, in Memphis - Elvis's hometown. Robert Kennedy, Assassinated in Los Angeles, June 6,1968, a US Senator who strongly supported human rights and social justice, was killed two months later, on June 6..... As well as John Kennedy being killed by the same group of Scum in 1963.... As the Deep State only cared about power then ... As it is now ....And so create social hat- etude to retain that power .... "Hence the riots then and now " .... It was Elvis's reaction to the news of both King and Kennedy's assassination added to John's killing Just years earlier that lead to the creation of the song by the great song writer Earl Brown ........ Yes it is about America and the struggles for peace among all men .... But the Deep State wants total power .... And they want us divided through rioting and such to keep that power "NO MATTER WHAT " that lead up to the 68 riots and of resent .... As the Deep State .... " DOES NOT WANT US TO LOVE ONE ANOTHER" .... So killed those leaders of the people .... Those leaders that strongly supported human rights and social justice ... It's the main stream media and the Elite { DEEP STATE } that try to keep people fighting to this day ........ As this is the reason for .... War..... Hate .....Crime ........Racism .............. Riots .... And other such Aberration's ............ That not just America has gone though .... but the world as a whole ........ As long as we let the Main Stream Media with it's so called nightly news broadcasts continue to think for a person .... That person will be Dumb-Down as much as the Deep State can keep that person .... As long as MSM control our thought's and emotions the longer it will take to stop it ....... The report reflex that Elvis loved the people of the world ......All people { As it should be } we are all brothers and sisters each and every one of us ............. The song title "If I can Dream" is something those three leaders dreamed .......... And that Is the true point the song sings and hopes ...........That maybe .... Just maybe the upheaval in 1968 in America Which was Created by { Main Stream Media } And the Deep State......... That was in full swing trying to get us to fight among our-self could be stopped .... So now they are trying it again .... However we are sheep no more .... We are awake .... {most of us } So help the ones that are still listening to MSM .... That is were the problem begins and ends .... ......... You see if the DS and the MSM can keep us fighting they control the narrative and the attitude of the people ..... They hate us and want us to hate each other too ....... Those leaders went up against the DS and MSM and tried to help our world and culture change for the better ............ But were shot down instead .........As the deep state does not want us together but apart ................See .......... MLK .... BFK .... JFK.... All killed for that very dream with-in a five year span .... But it is "WE THE PEOPLE DREAM AS WELL" .... Move out of the way Deep State .... WE THE PEOPLE ARE AWAKE AND TAKING OVER .... We now CLAIM FROM NOW TILL THE END OF TIME the words ....... WE ARE ALL OF ONE PEOPLE .... This now rings out though out the land As the riots back fired ......... This now will really turn into Heaven on Earth ................ The world is about to see this dream a reality ..... I believe With- in a few months the rotten evil one's that have controlled us for so very long ..... We about to be rid of .... Lets all postulate that the dark one's battle with humanity is to come to and end here and now ............. And all that is left is peace on earth for all life forms ....... Pray that the patriots end the satanic one's creating havoc on Earth ends on this rock .... And that our President and his administration Gets that done .... So we can have that peace on .... "THIS BEAUTIFUL BLUE PLANET WE ALL CALL HOME " ....... BIG N ......

The man who wrote this song wrote it because as a kid one of his good friends was black. He did not understand why his friend could not live next door to him, in a white neighborhood. He saw what the cycle of poverty did. So he wrote a song for Elvis, who was raised dirt poor. He talks about it in an interview. I am 49. when I was about 5 I found some OLD 45's (vinyl record) my mom had. This was one of them. I fell in love with this song. I didn't really understand it. I knew it was a sad song about someone dying. I fell in love with his voice and to this day this is one of my favorite songs of all time. Sadly it is just as relevant today as it was in the 50s.

He was asked not to record that song, telling him it might hurt his career (yeah right) he went on to record it, a big hit for him. Elvis understood poverty, was born into it in a shot gun house in Mississippi & moved to the projects in Memphis as a teen. Great man, great song.
