Elvis was a good actor. Given the right script and director he could have been great. He didn't have a real manager but more of a promoter who didn't do what was best for Elvis creatively.

That was a really good movie. He proved he could act. But Colonel Parker wanted him to do the musicals because I sold the records and made more money. He wanted to be a serious actor and he could’ve been

King creole,without a doubt,is his best film,showing true acting talent,followed by jailhouse rock,then love me tender,well thats my opinion anyway. Its a pity he never got the lead roll in a Star is born,maybe that roll would of suited him,eventually it went to kris kristofferson,but barbara striesand,did want elvis.

A lot of credit for the quality of ths movie goes to Michael Curtiz, who directed this and other such movies as Yankee Doodle Dandy, and Casablanca.
