The funniest part of that performance is they had to give away tickets for it. It actually was a comeback, given that he hadn't been on a stage in almost a decade while he was making B movies. NBC gambled on the special being much more popular than everyone thought, and they won big.

Great reaction. Everything else only Elvis could do aside, does anyone play guitar here? For those who don't, it's extremely difficult to do what he's doing every time he lets his hands loose. It takes years of playing to do that, then find the right placement again in seconds just by feel. He could do it all. PEACE!

If you do check out more, why not experience his national breakthrough year of 1956? There are numerous live performances from TV shows that include Ed Sullivan and Milton Berle. No autotune (obviously) and no going back if you made mistakes; live was live. It was the year which saw the 21-year-old pop up frequently on TV. After he returned from the army in 1960, Elvis never appeared on TV as often again. Here's Hound Dog from The Milton Berle Show in 1956 - this got Elvis into a lot of trouble.
