He was struggling with breathing cuz of his heart. He died six weeks after this performance. He was in pain and very ill at this point. No one like him! Even as he was dying his voice never failed him. RIP

FYI- Elvis Presley was a baritone whose voice had an extraordinary compass - the so-called register - and a very wide range of vocal colour. It covered two octaves and a third, from the baritone low-G to the tenor high B, with an upward extension in falsetto to at least a D flat. Also Elvis said he never had a singing lesson. He just started singing when he was a little kid.

This was just 2 months or so before Elvis passed in August 1977, so he wasn't in very good shape, but despite that a very creditable performance.

Elvis was clearly struggling here and not in good health. However, that incredible voice was still there. This performance was from a concert aired on TV. I found it hard to watch all of it at the time It was too sad. Legend.

This man can put chills on anybody, health declining BUT HE STILL GAVE HIS ALL, just look at the people looking at him, KING ELVIS.

That was Unchained Melody, operatic style. When I saw this in the Elvis movie, I lost it. And each time I hear it, I do the same. Elvis was clearly unwell, high on and addicted to uppers and downers. Gone 6 weeks later.

there was people in the audience from the music industry, they said it was his best performance of this song he ever did , about 6 weeks before he past , his last concert.

Elvis wasn't well here, but still smashed it.6 weeks later he was dead. Such a loss.

It's just amazing that he could continue at this stage - it just shows how much of a performer and artist he is, as long as his heart still beats he would sing - the passion was still there - that's why he was the King! There will never be another can achieve what he did...

Like you said, he was out of breath. He had indeed just performed a plethora of other songs and was probably exhausted. He was also just a couple of weeks away from dying. He had undiagnosed untreated severe heart problems, he was borderline obese, he suffered from chronic constipation(it may sound humorous but imagine not being able to take a shit for weeks, even months) most likely caused by his extreme amphetamine abuse and was as a whole completely exhausted from touring on the constant. Even though he must've felt like a boulder stuck to a mountain getting up on that stage, he not only got up there but he still gave the people attending the show of a lifetime. He was quite simply the King. God rest his soul.

Want to hear Elvis at his peak watch his Hawaii Special! Have it on DVD play often. Thats how I want to remember him. Loved him no matter what ... highs, lows, and heartfelt struggles to this last moment. Cant say enough admiration on his behalf! 💓

Oh man. There's a reason why I don't watch footage from this last concert very often. Think about this, he was to die 8 or 9 weeks later think about that in your life. What do you have on your calendar for 8 weeks from now. It's so sad. They had him on so many drugs to deal with all these things and then so many side effects. And I don't think he consciously knew he was going to die in 8 weeks, but you can tell something in him new and he gave these just absolutely magnificent performances. It's almost Opera level stuff. My god. It leaves me speechless.

The new Elvis movie (about his life) comes out on June 24th - there will be a surge in popularity for Elvis with the new generations - of course there will also be new covers of his songs and many many reactions videos. The young people who missed out will have the opportunity to experience this phenomenal artist - his music, his incredible voice, his movies, his humanity...

Although his voice stays amazing, when I watch Elvis perform in his later years, I have always thought he looked like a man who was ill, not just on drugs. I am from a medical family, and my dad, a doctor, always thought the same thing. He would comment that Elvis looked like he was on cortisone (which I have recently found out he was for his lungs). You have to watch the video, or read the book, Elvis: destined to die young by Sally Hoedel. She is a professional journalist and a lifetime Elvis fan who always questioned why did Elvis, his mom, and her two brothers, have similar deaths and health issues. She did extensive research into Elvis's family health history and found out that his mother's parents were 1st cousins who married, and as a result, passed on several genetic health issues to Gladys, her two brothers, and Elvis. Elvis suffered from a young boy of insomnia, and bowel issues. We now would be able to diagnose that as Hirschsprung's disease (congenital megacolon) causing terrible constipation and abdominal pain. Sally's research clearly documents that Elvis, his maternal grandmother, and mother all had an autoimmune disorder that affected their liver and lungs. Autoimmune diseases are only recently better understood. However, due to the fact that Elvis grew up really below the poverty line for years, they had no access to medical care. In the early 1970's, Elvis's doctor did try to understand why a man of his age would have so many health issues, but the tests that would have discovered his illness were not developed. There were no CT scans, MRI's, ultrasounds, etc. Therefore, they threw the drugs they had available at his symptoms, without really treating the underlying disease. It was only in his autopsy report that they found out he suffered from an auto immune inflammatory process. Did he take prescription drugs, Yes; but, I think unlike an addict who takes drugs to escape life, Elvis was taking them for real medical ailments that neither he, nor his docotrs totally understood, and that he was trying to figure out how to survive and continue to be Elvis. Sally states in her book: "There are eleven main systems in the human body and Elvis endured disorder/disease in nine of them. His heart (circulatory system), his lungs (respiratory system), and his bowels (digestive/excretory systems) required medication. Insomnia affected his nervous system. The adrenal gland failure and resulting low testosterone are both issues of the endocrine system. His immune system was compromised. His urinary system was not functioning properly. The arthritis that caused Elvis severe pain throughout his body impacted his muscular system and skeletal system. There is clearly more at play here than a dependence on prescription medication when more than eighty percent of Elvis’ bodily systems did not function properly. When we add to that the evidence that I have uncovered proving that of those nine, five-the circulatory (heart disease), respiratory (Alpha 1), digestive/excretory (megacolon), nervous (insomnia) and immune (hypogammaglobulinemia)-were present since birth and certainly prior to the prescription drug use that accompanied fame." Elvis dedicated his life to getting his family out of poverty, and keeping them out. At the end of his life he had more than 100 people on his payroll, and I believe that he was a very ill man who was struggling to continue to provide for those he loved, and to give everyone what they wanted--Elvis Presley. I am thankful that Sally has done some interviews that are posted on KZfaq, and has written a book that helps us understand the man, and that gives him back his integrity. He was NOT a dope riddled man. He was an ill man trying to survive, and who wanted to continue to bless the world with his unique gifts. Baz Luhrman got this wrong in his movie.

As others have said, he was just a few months away from dying at this point. His handlers had him on so many drugs with so many side effects and it's just so tragic. I am so impressed with the fact that his voice and his command of his voice just seem to keep improving right up to when he died. He was in his early forties and at one point in the other video you asked when he died which I'm sure you've looked it up on Wikipedia but I think it was 1977. As far as being underrated as a vocalist, don't forget that James Brown loved him so much and more importantly in a way almost, the Great opera singer Luciano Pavarotti once said of elvis, if Elvis had had any formal vocal training he may well have been the greatest opera singer of that century. That really is something to think about. And for that matter react to some pavarotti! Laugh. Rest in peace king. He was evolving so quickly I have a feeling he would have contributed even so much more to the music scene going forward at least through his 40s and 50s if not longer.

Excellent reaction and this was a few months before his death! I believe he wasn't 100% healthy here and that is why shortness of breath. What is incredible is as amazing as that was, just think if he was 100%. I watched a Reactor who had a Voice Monitor to watch the waves when someone sings and he showed that Elvis's Virbrato was like a Computer, for it went perfectly everytime, which to him was unbelievable, God Bless!
