The stupid thing is the rules, there are some things that VAR cant look at. Its a joke casemiro slides wins the ball his momentum takes his stud across the oponents shin and VAR can check it and its a red card, but aparently the ref saw the mings foul as an attempt to get the ball with momentum being the only reason he caught Gapko, VAR had to go with the refs decision. You couldnt make this crap up.

They have already explained it. It was a subjective decision by the referee to deem Konsa deflected the ball. He didn't deem it as a deliberate play by Konsa. Simple. Genuinely don't know what everyone wants. The culture in football now is not to want to try and understand why decisons have been made and then accept them, the culture amongst football supporters, coaches and players is now just to want to argue why everyone else is wrong and they are right.

@Paul O'Hare there's your problem. If in doubt it the benefit goes to the attacking team in an offside decision. Its in the rules. Its there to stop incidents like this and to remain objective, not to leave it to the subjective opinion of a ref with possible unconscious bias.

the rule is (new as of this year) that if the defender has a deliberate attempt to play the ball and it does to an attacking in an offside position, its not offside because of the deliberate attempt. But if there is a deflection of a defending player and it rebounds to an attacker in an offside position it is offside. Referees have to judge if it was a deliberate attempt or deflection in order to get this call’s correct.

@Paul O'Hare - The problem with this situation is that it assumes intent in favour of the defender. If a player tries to block a pass/shot then they have deliberately attempted to change the course of the ball. Ergo their touch should play others on side.

If the ref blew for a pen then it would'nt been over turned by VAR but i think Hendo goes down to easy so yes contact but not enough to over turn the refs original call. Not all contact is a foul. Lfc fan btw i would hate if that was given against us!

Every football pundit and commentator said he deliberately played the ball. Konsa literally lifted his foot up to his waist to make contact with the ball. Therefore Van Dijk cannot be offside if it comes off a villa player. I've seen this exact situation against us before when Lovern was adjudged to have played the ball, missed the ball trying to boot it and went through to kane who was standing offside and scored. That goal stood btw. 🤷‍♂️

@@ajthandi9659 the Loveren one you've literally just described a deliberate play. The ref had to go to the monitor because it was a subjective call as to deliberate play by Konsa or not. It wasn't a matter of fact. As it was subjective another referee may have come to a different conclusion.

Sack em and replace em with proper refs and aren't biased against teams to make a certain team win. Replace em with referees that know the game and will make impartial decisions, favouring neither side. Crappy refereeing at times, not just in Liverpool's games, but other games as well.
