Chelsea wears white socks at home. All other teams know they have to wear a different color. It’s also to help distinguish players if a foul occurs. Same socks makes it harder for the officials sometimes so the different colors can make it easier

Because the referees are looking where the ball is ie at players feet, and they can't tell team differences if everyone is wearing white socks

Great to listen too.Again, I’m drawn into the conversations around relationships.I also think the context and timing of Emma’s point was actually more so inappropriate, as it was being spoken alongside coach player relationships.I think Emma is a straight talker.The argument thats he’s hypocritical prevents dialogue.In her role she’s prepared to be challenged, but maybe has felt repercussions this week. I like hearing how you both have varied perspectives.This conversation is so worth lots of discussion if it’s taken away from Emma now .This is an excellent platform to explore the conversations maybe. Do you ever have hosts to come onto the channel just to make it less personal .Football can be so tribal and binary.Mature open conversation can only a good thing if done right.I think the women’s games bring so much to the table on so many levels .This is a platforms to helps normalise, address inclusiveness, challenge condescension and break down the walls of what it is to be human and alive.It can also great light chat with a little gossip❤.Fab.

In a professional environment the corporate stance is romantic involvements are inappropriate so that if there's a problem the company is free to step in.

Look, if Emma's point was "nobody does drama like lesbians do drama" it's impossible to argue after the Krashlyn split. But it's unavoidable when you're talking about women's football. And, it isn't obligatory. Lots of WLW players are going to manage their relationships completely professionally.

Ruesha spoke about the player player briefly yesterday and oddly kinda agreed with emma said as a player it depends on the players because them been women they can be hormonal and that can lead to fights which of course teammates will pick up on be it because your not sitting together at meals or just how you interact and then it can be a problem bc team can be on edge. But other interesting thing is ruesha said multiple times in her video she’s not allowed speak ‘on that persons’ I’m wondering is that because she gets so much hate from Arsenal fans when she does or have Ireland stopped her mentioning Katie

In a professional setting you should alway have 2 sets of kits with you, which also includes the socks. Although there are worse things, having to wear socks of the big local rival doesn't really boost the morale. Chelsea was the better prepared team and Lauren James played extemely well. I don't understand why Alessia Russo was benched. Manu didn't look well in somE situations, but she's definitely not the only one to blame for the defeat. Its good that Emma Hayes appologized for the use of the word inappropriate for player to player relationships, but as a coach you don't really want to have to deal with possible dramas taking place when there are issues because of that. Looks like a very exciting new NWSL season with some awesome new players in the league.

Yeah! i was thinking the same thing - surprised that extra kits are not a thing. Yeah, Seeing the players in the Chelsea socks i felt the gut punch for them. Manu has dealt with a lot of critiques and always seems to have a positive attitude and I love that about her. Some of her 2nd half saves were incredible! Im always rooting for her

I love this kind of general update video ❤🎉 nwsl started like they should. Amazing football and now I have higher expectations. Nwsl+ was unbelievably great, I just wish they had all games. not another 7 possible providers /: Emma walked back her comments because she had no other options. Nobody is perfect and we just happened to witness a little bit of hypocrisy from her. It's all good. I think the socks didn't matter because the team's jerseys were very different. Rules could be flexible for such stupid things.

@@SaraSarahAs I learned on Friday, clubs must advise the kit they will wear 21 days before the game, and then wear the kit announced. There are fines for failing to adhere to this regulation so Arsenal will soon be receiving an invoice from the league. CFCW could have cited the regs and stuck with their announced kit but, in the circumstance where this regulation was out of the window, the simplest solution must surely have been for Chelsea to change to blue socks.

Having to change anything about your kit at that late stage is unsettling and does interfere with mental and physical prep. It is Arsenal's mistake and so they are the ones that should face that disruption. While it sounds like a noble move for Chelsea to change, it would be volunteering to handicap themselves for the start of the game. (For reference I was backing Arsenal for this game.)

I feel Emma spoke out for a reason. Possible scenario (I’m just supposing) Ann-Katrin Berger has been Chelsea’s #1 keeper since 2019 and this year Hannah Hampton has taken over. Berger’s appeared in only four matches. Perhaps girlfriend Jess Carter has not taken this well. Obviously I’m just speculating but I’m trying to read between the lines with her comments.

Not only that but, speculating again, Chelsea lost two of their best players, Magda Eriksson and Pernille Harder, at the same time arguably because they wanted to stay together. If Ann-Katrin decides decides to go, will Jess Carter be tempted to follow her? If Emma Hayes was staying, would she feel pressured to give Ann-Katrin game time against her better judgement to prevent a Magda/Pernille situation repeating itself? Sam Kerr and her partner both play in London but is her remaining at Chelsea contingent on her partner not being sold outside the capital or even outside the country by West Ham? So player-player relationships aren't ideal and that all Hayes should have said (not that she should have said anything, frankly).

We are looking at player-player relationships in terms of partners but there can also be friendships. I would bring this example with the "fab four" in Chelsea. Sam, Millie, Guro, and Erin. Would there be a bit of tension with Sam's situation? If they saw it as some did where it was said to be racist, how does that affect the friendship? Especially if the club does not see any wrong in what was said. As you rightly brought up in your last video, Chelsea lost two first-class players Pernille and Magda because they made the decision not to play apart anymore. It may not be inappropriate but it can be harder to manage.

We cut it out of the video cause it was kinda long winded but we were thinking the same thing! Its like sometimes you have a best friend on the team then there is a problem then it turns into a "situation" just with friends! so yeah great point!

I don't think so, as even if she used a racial slur (and I think she did) she is not inherently a racist, she wouldn't be engaged to a white woman if that was the case. I doubt any of her team mates will give her that much grief except for 'what were you thinking?' I'm not sure how close Sam and Millie are, Millie is Rachel Daly's bestie and Kerr is engaged to her ex-girlfriend (their relationship seemed to end poorly)- it must be a bit complicated!

Lia didn't swerve Katie. The clip showed her walk past 3 players, including Katie. Everything is always blown out of proportion when it includes lia Katie or catlin. This isn't a dig at you. The sock saga is due to Chelsea having a rule in place that has been there for years that any team plays Chelsea at Stamford Bridge is not allowed to wear white socks

Emma's apology was fake. She was probably advised to say something, she never really apologised she just said she shouldn't have said inappropriate. She has always stated a dislike for player to player relationships. I feel this coming out now could be her setting things out before she takes over the US job.

@@SaraSarah. I was lucky enough to spend 3 months in US at this time of year, many years back and see St Patrick's day US style. We were often mistaken for Irish, because of our Yorkshire dialect, by proud Irish-Americans, who we had to disappoint by admitting we were English. In Portland Oregon, my friend and I went to an Irish pub, to get a taste of home. Our local late opening pub in UK was an Irish one. Afterwards we went to a Chinese restaurant as a substitute for an Indian curry and had Mongolian beef. We had tried to teach the kids in Texas to play football ⚽️, but when the ball went off the pitch, those desert thorns are prickly 🏜. When we flew back from JFK🛫🛬 in NY🗽, it was full of Irish fans arriving for the men's World Cup. It was not like we were asked, on arriving on the Greyhound in Texas, whether we had come all the way from England on the bus. 🌎🏜🏝🌊🚌🌊🏖🏞🌍

Being on any professional team it’s mandatory to wear what is required. This is their job. Different socks help the refs. Emma just used the wrong words and misspoke. I’m all for Chelsea 🎉

I don’t like the woman because i’m a City fan and Chelsea are our nemesis, and i’m perpetually jealous of Chelsea for having Emma Hayes as a manager 😂. Arsenal fans should maybe stop complaining about Jonas..Chelsea beat EVERYONE!! Anyway. So. It wasn’t Emma’s finest moment re player relationships. Saying it, I mean. I went out/ had a long term relationship with an England (Women’s) footballer. It made me think, tbh. Could I have played (if I played, which sadly i don’t) effortlessly with my partner had we broken up whilst still both playing for the same team? I was heartbroken when we broke up so i’m pretty sure it might have impacted upon my playing with her? yes tbf when the original shot is going wide the keeper has maybe decided they don't need to dive. but it is true that Manu has had a few of those where she didn't dive and maybe could have got there... or maybe she couldn't and realised that a dive would be purely cosmetic. she's going through a bad patch, that's for sure. D'Angelo hasn't really convinced me, maybe Arsenal could buy one of the four international keepers that Chelsea have got. Or Mary Earps

i just think it was ridiculous arsenal had to change their socks at all lol. like how on earth does both of them wearing (different) white socks clash with chelsea's uniform? they're literally completely different colors, and on top of it, arsenal have red in their socks. but oh well, rules are rules, and at the end of the day its embarrassing they had to wear chelsea socks. i just don't get why they didn't just put black tape around the blue part of the sock or roll them down far enough to cover it because in my opinion the most embarrassing part of this situation was the blue showing.

I take Emma's word she misspoke about relationships being inappropriate. Not even sure why she brought it up in the first place which was upsetting. I would never want the players to be dissuaded into having relationships with other players - that would be going backwards which would be upsetting. We all know Player-player relationships can 100% work out! we have seen it! I hope she sees how those words were very hurtful. To many.
