The Embassy of the State of Eritrea to UK & Ireland participated in the celebration of Africa Day 2024 under the theme “Education Fit for the 21st Century: Building resilient education systems for increased access to inclusive, lifelong, quality and relevant learning in Africa” held at the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) under the auspices of H.E. Mr. Girish Nunkoo, the Dean of the African Union Heads of Mission Group and High Commissoner of Mauritius to the Court of St James’s, and led by H.E. Sara Amani, the Chairperson of the Social Committee and Ambassador of Côte d’Ivoire to the Court of St James’s. Among other speeches were recorded statements from H.E. Mr. Moussa Mahamat Faki, Chairperson of the African Union Commission and the Rt Hon Andrew Mitchell, Minister of State of the United Kingdom for Development and Africa. There was also remarks delivered by Mr. Jose Matheickal, Director, IMO Technical Cooperation and Implementation Division.
The colourful occasion featured exhibition from around the Continent and live music from Algeria, Cote d'Ivoire, Morocco and Zimbabwe. In attendance were over 300 guests, including members of the diplomatic corps, UK government officials, representatives from academia and international organisations and other invited guests. The Embassy is proud to serve as the lead program production and member of the Social Committee African Union head of Missions. It was a great opportunity to coordinate the artistic line-up, exhibitions, highlighting the rich and diverse cultures, history and beauty of Africa.
