There are sectors of the economy that have been largely ignored in Africa like art, fashion and sports. We have ignored them in favour of mainstream jobs like medicine and engineering.
In order for Africa to truly develop however, we need to invest and nurture creatives in these sectors

It's lovely to hear about gig economy. But we also need our infrastructure in place to connect places at a low cost. Take an example I would like to tour my country but cost of hiring a car and having to spend hours on the road it's better flying to Dubai or Europe. If we can have a fast railway network goods and services will move hence creation of more opportunities.

Our biggest problem here in Uganda is our mindset. The way we perceive everything is quite fixed! I think young generation needs mindset change.. And from there we shall be able to see the world as it moves! Use all social media platforms in the way that can favor them. Encourage them watch, listen to people like entrepreneurs, and relevant information in all sectors of life... Thank you please! ❤️

Wow😍thanks Natalie for representing our generation 😊and thanks to Dad for your views, ideas and guidance. Insightful discussion am lucky to be following 🙏. I think talent is there in Uganda but transformation is so slow and our own people still embrace the imports than valuing, nurturing our own skills and talents. Discussions such as these are eye openers and inspiring.

That is because many of us believe and trust in the value of the things we are importing over the value of the things being supplied locally. If we want this to change we must show that the value of what we supply locally is up to global standards. For where it isn't we must skill ourselves to meet those standards.

Mr Bitature am truly inspired and appreciate the advice you give us - i am a coder myself and i can confirm that everything you said is true, as a programmer i get clients from abroad and within Kampala the demand is high but you have to prove that you're skilled enough for the clients to trust you with their projects - am still growing but with the advice from 'Uncommon Perspective' am becoming more confident that i too can actually succeed.

How is wish 10% of African fathers have that kind of mindset. In most families, people are forced to study courses they are not interested in. A child forced to study law because it is a family of lawyers. This is a set back from the family level. The internet should be the cheapest resource to access if we are to move close to a developing country.

Maybe a great way for me to start this initiative in Uganda would be to have these friends take me through what they do since the program is already thriving. I know we have other brilliant people in Uganda that can teach this too, I source them and go to different schools, and parents market the program as a holiday activity. The resources would be a problem however I think I can perhaps rent a computer room or fully equipped space in one of the institutions on the agreed days of the holiday (that has computers, enough to take 15 students per session). Those that have personal laptops can bring theirs along, creating more room. This is only a simple brainstorm for now and it looks doable on paper though I know there will be other factors to consider once it is in motion.
