My father was a pioneering vascular surgeon in Australia... Never lost a patient from his surgical intervention. He was part of the team, as President of the Australasian College of Surgeons to separate Vascular from general surgery... So proud of his legacy and the incredible work now by these wonderful younger generation of specialists x

This episode made me cry. My dad died from an abdominal aortic aneurysm in 2019. He was 67. There was no warning for him apart from a little back pain. A couple of hours later he just collapsed and died. Nothing paramedics could do. 😢 I'm glad things turned out well for Peter. Just looking at him, you'd think he was an absolute goner.

I'm also sorry for your loss! I last saw my Dad on Father's Day, of all days, after he had just a few weeks in an awesome new Veterans Center - where he was getting the best care of his life. Finally back on his medications and looked over by nurses hourly. So his passing was quite unexpected, like your Dad. Anyway, like I said, we (my son and I) last saw my father on Father's Day, where, he, as usual, bought lunch for us! (It made him happy and he wouldn't let me pay). Isn't that funny.

Love these shows. The doctors and nurses are so caring and warm with the patients. We pay a fortune for medical insurance in the United States are are lucky to a smile. Never talked to like they care at all. Plus your thrown out of the hospital so fast after surgeries that almost 1/2the patients have to return with problem due to being discharged to soon

Everyone is different: When I went to an ER in downtown L.A. 9 years ago, the nurse who helped me was wonderful; kind and attentive. When I needed surgery 4 years ago, Medicare paid for me to see the best expert in the country at UCSD. I had two pounds of fibroids removed instead of a hysterectomy. On the other end of the scale, I've gone to clinics that left me emotionally scarred for life. But I do not and cannot speak for the whole U.S.

Anyone that chooses a career in the medical field is one hell of a person to take on so much responsibility..Especially in emergency care..it seems so chaotic and heart wrenching..all the blood, broken body parts and bones, bodily fluids..and then theres the humanity side of working in emergency care..im just amazed, grateful, inspired, and truly appreciative to All❤

Medical work is hard even for those who do the smaller things and don't do the insane amount of schooling. I worked as a CNA in a nursing home for a while and even that can be extraordinarily difficult. After having the experience of a lovely hospice patient passing away and getting hurt myself trying to save a patient when forced to use the wrong equipment I decided that probably wasn't the line of work for me.

As a recently retired nurse, finishing my 52 1/2 years as a Hospice nurse, the rush to get the family to the bedside of Peter as he's being rushed to surgery brought tears to my eyes. So critical, yet fingers crossed it wouldn't add to the urgency. So happy the outcome was positive.---Ah, bless him, having to lose his foot despite everyone's efforts. Darn speedster. It's critical to remain as calm as possible because it's hard to think if you become stressed. It takes a considerable amount of time to prep an OR; there is so much to set up; locate all the correct packages and scrub in/open everything. The doctors need to get to the OR; get changed and scrub in... just the hand scrub alone takes a 3 full mins. There is no point in wheeling a pt strait to the OR only to have to wait in the corridor; it's far safer to be in the ED with a full resus team. The doctor literally called the second they confirmed on the scan for them to immediately start prepping the OR. There was no delays here; only exemplary work and their ability to stay calm in this moment is only further proof.

I stopped to rescue an injured animal and rolled my ankle down the gutter. Nondisplaced fractured fibula, and the bloody.bird didn't make it. Didn't go to ED because I knew I would be sitting for 6+ hours to be told it's nothing. Since it didn't "look" broken so I treated it like a bad sprain. Had plenty of those over 30 years of playing sport. Pain got worse and swelling didn't go down so I called my GP, got a referral, an X-ray & ultrasound, now I'm in a cam boot. Australian medical services are not coping with the rise in population and people like me suffer because before seeking medical treatment we are forced to ask ourselves, "is it worth the wait?" If the answer is no, we don't go. Side note: I have intermittent chest pains that I'm putting down to strsined muscles and neck stiffness I'm attributing to poor sleeping position. Why do I not go to the ER? It's not bad enough to wait half a night in a crowded, uncomfortable waiting room to be told my anxiety is up.

Mr. Peter has ruptured aorta, confirmed by ultrasound. After that, the doctor decides to take him to CT to confirm the obvious rupture, while not giving him a drop of blood. Calmly, they take him back to the ER, and then "rushes" the poor man to the OR. 🤔 I am not a doctor, but I know that the rupture could go wild any second, and the man can die any second, and this doctor is acting so casual... Gives me chills! This could have easily gone the other way, and in my opinion, in that case the doctor would be the one to blame.

Every episode someone comments ‘in the USA he would of already been in the OR’ I assume your knowledge of how an OR works is from TV shows? Because unless America has empty OR’s with full surgical teams scrubbed in and waiting, what you are actually suggesting is that the ER doctors send the patient up to the OR to wait in a corridor with no treatment 😉

Compared to other ER's, this staff is so uncoordinated & slow. Nobody knows what they should do. You should look at A&E Resus to see how organised they are. They have a Team Leader for each case.
