Pretty amazing how this guy went from on genre of content to a completely different one, then mastered that different one, then GAINED subs tenfold, and then revolutionized the DIY battery game with custom products that take the suffering out of it..... I wonder when he sleeps.... Maybe he’s got a power pack plugged into himself? Sheesh... BRAVO! I’ll be ordering.

This is BY FAR, THE BEST Solar Generator/ Power pack I ever saw. Its Huge advantage is that if one of the cells goes back you can very easy replace it with a good one instead of throwing the whole battery pack to the garbage, or start messing with cutting a spot welding and re-weld a whole pack. This is the best solution ever. This Solar Generator can last a lifetime !

you being the least electrically inclined person on the planet is WHY this gives you hope for a DIY power wall. because holy moly that is the single worst idea i have ever seen. you know there are much safer and much cheaper batteries out there than a pack of 18650's when you want as much power as that wall. not to mention. ONE single one of those 18650 batteries failing. and your entire house burns down.

I just met you Jehu, yesterday through your diy channel and have watched (binged.. LOL) a few of your projects. I'm planning a trip to Puerto Rico in Feb of 2021, after a 4 year absence before Hurricane Maria blew off the roof of my parents country house in the mountains. I love to DIY and therefore my trip is to try and rebuild the house to make it livable again and honor my parents legacy. This Solar Powerpack is perfect to sustain myself there while I try to bring the house back to life! Thank you for the ideas, inspiration and your positive energy. Pa'lante siempre!

Jehu this would actually be pure fun to put together; your PCB system has evolved so considerably it’s amazing. Congrats. For the XT90 cable it might be better to put the connection points at opposing corners. That way the round trip voltage drop over the standoff “buss bars” will be the same for each module, thus the total charge/ discharge current will be spread evenly between individual modules.

I have always thought about a emergency application of a system like this as a " keep my freezer food from going bad " a system like this paired with a few cheap solar cells and a inverter sized to power the freezer only. Long power outages really hurt people that buy in bulk to save money when it all goes bad even being able to run the freezer a few hours a day would keep it frozen solid

For those suggestions that say put it out in the snow that's great in the winter but what if it above freezing or more no for when it's above freezing we need power to run fridge and freezer unfortunately because I live in Canada with our lower dollars and high shipping cost it's above my budget there's only two units I can afford and they use a sealed lead acid battery and both are designed to kill the battery in a year because of not charging them fully and discharging to below 12 Volts so I'd basically be buying them for the inverter and that doesn't make sense if their reviewers would do proper reviews and tell of their faults they'd fix them we need a great entry level solar generator that has a 2000 watt pure sine wave inverter with sealed lead acid batteries charged proper so they'd last five to eight years and the ability to upgrade to lithium when the battery dies I'm hoping nature generator will fix their flaws as it already has a 2000 watt pure sine wave inverter so if they'd at least charge the battery to 14.8 float charge at 13..4. and not discharge below 12.2 and upgrade the solar input to 400 watts or higher it would be a good unit and I could live with the other flaws. to change the solar charge controller to a programmable mppt solar charge controller that's able to charge lithium battery as well would make it a great entry level unit

I'm building this almost to a T. I may use a different case. I'm just doing it a little at a time. Got my cells situated, tested and rewrapped, and just got the diy modules in so Ill be working those after work. And Just ordered the BMS and charge controller. Getting excited for this to all come together! Its gonna be for my mom. She wants to try that whole vanlife thing. But instead of going full bore on a dedicated system before she even knows if shes gonna want to do it full time, I figured this would a good option.

That's awesome. I turned an old solar powered electric fence charger into a portable battery pack for charging things while I'm camping. It uses a 6v lead acid battery though.

I've learned so much from your videos. I just recently got done building a 48 kWh power wall with 120ah LG Chem pouch cells from the chevy bolt. I've been wanting to build a modular system for a little while now. I dove headfirst into experimenting with different cell chemistries. A lot of thanks to you and a few other youtubers who have made people more comfortable with lithium cells and how they work and what can be done with them.. Thanks and keep up the awesome work!

Awesome Build! I work as a maintenance technician for AT&T. I climb cell towers 300+ feet daily to fix common issues related to cell equipment. This kit would be awesome to have in order to keep my radio and diagnostic equipment charged since I’m in the sun all the time. Love your videos! Keep them coming!

I like the modular concept and the fact that the case has everything in it and looks neat and tidy from the outside. The circuitboard concept seems so much more advanced than the usual soldering or spot-welding exercises... Unlike anything I have seen so far on youtube. I am impressed!

It’s hard to admit how ignorant I’ve been, and all the while was comfortable. I had seen packs like this and just discounted them to fad status, makes me feel pretty, well, dumb. Up to now I’ve had gas generators and was very comfortable, but now, not nearly so much. I don’t like feeling as ignorant as you’re making me feel, but am glad to be awakened to all the new , to me, avenues. I’m way behind, but willing to try catching up. Thanks for the eye opener

Dude, this is seriously cool, a slightly taller case would posibly allow for a small pure sine wave inverter to be put in as well. Could make for a very handy little off grid solar generator. I may need to experiment with this.

I have something similar that the ham radio Community uses but nowhere near as cool as yours we've just taken quadcopter lipos with step Downs bring the voltage down to 12.2 volts so we can use them with her ham radio gear this would be awesome with a 400 watt solar generator project I built! Keep On Keepin On! One of these days we're really going to need all these portable power packs.

I've always been told the battery leads needs to be attached at opposite ends of the battery, rather than in the middle as you've done. What's your experience with battery lead placement?

Yes. Sort of. You could pull 3 of the batteries out of each board and get a 12-16V pack, but you'd probably be better off using something designed to run at 12V, like a 4S LiFePO4 pack. The 7S boards are designed to run in the 24V range.

This was so simplistic and easy to follow along. I've been interested in your projects for some time now, and this is the first I think I could complete easily, without having to learn skillets I don't have yet. Screwed in connections and simple connectors make this build achievable! Great job! You can see how much thought I'd put into the design!

How is not a generator? You plug it into a solar panel which these are designed for. No different than a generator that runs on gasoline.

Thanks for the video. I really like the pelican case idea. I would replace the car battery conductors with a EC5 or XT90 output though. It inspired me make something similar probably with a DC-DC stepup-down (for variable DC output), 12V Cigaret Ligter, PD input-output and maybe a small inverter. However in 2022 Lifepo4 batteries are much cheaper like 1,200wh is CA$430 (half the price of your battery pack system) and these batteries can charge/discharge in much higher current. I would replace the BMS and batteries with a single Lifepo4 pack. Industries change so fast these days.

I'm in the process of converting my RV to run on solor power vs using a generator which runs on propane or gasoline. This battery pack seems easy and functional to store the power produced so all my electrical needs in the coach may operate on solor power.

You should look into using the harborfreight plastic gun amo box. It's affordable and can fit a lot. I just made a 630 wh solar generator with it.

Having pried apart used laptop batteries and messed with testing, matching, soldering etc to try and build battery packs, this is a great way for the DIY community to build their own power packs cheaply and SAFELY! I don't think I'd top the stacks with the nylon standoffs though. In my experience they are structurally pretty weak and break or strip easy. I think I'd probably use regular metal nuts and find another way to mount that end. Great project and a great product!

Just completed assembly. Charging underway! I did not like the idea of the screws fastening the BMS to the case appear to protrude through top of case and therefore could expose a hot lead? Could be my misunderstanding, but, I 3d printed a bracket for the BMS and hot glued it to the top of the inside cover. Bracket has 4mm holes for attaching board. Overall a fun project for sure and has me excited to explore other projects in the future!
