aTrippyFarmer and his family are back to bring you more farming adventures! In this episode, Andy and the crew have shifted their focus towards the remainder of the corn crop. Mother Nature, though, has blessed them with another set of challenges, which came in the form of additional rainfall. It has been a never-ending cycle this season. To pass the time while the ground attempts to dry back out, aTrippyFarmer and the family work on some routine maintenance for the John Deere harvesting fleet. Greasing, lubricating, fueling, and adjusting are just a few of the tasks on their agenda. The next day, something special arrives in Mattoon to help the big S780 crawl through the mud.... it was a set of tracks for the combine! After their local John Deere dealership installs them, they hit the fields the following day, and ground conditions have not improved at all. Regardless of that fact, the rubber tracks on the John Deere S780 Combine prove their worth immediately, as they crawl through the mud while the ground is in a nearly-impassable state. The mud dozer combine performs without a hiccup as it harvests more of the corn crop, and they move onto another field of corn to fill the bins. Eventually, they roll the dice and have Katie bring the S670 to the field where there is some drier ground. They run late into the night to fill another bin before another round of rain moves through, and they only make a slightly major mess out of the roads and bin site. Thanks for watching!

Andy "aTrippyFarmer" Dole is a 6th generation farmer from Central Illinois. On this farm, Andy works alongside his father, Marty, his uncles, Chris and Jeff, and his sister, Katie, to grow corn and soybeans on some of the finest dirt in the world. Andy and his family are deeply rooted in the area, operating a large farm that traces it origins back into the 1800s. Although some tracts did not stand the test of time, Andy and his family still grow corn and soybeans on fields that have been in the family for longer than even the oldest members of the farm have been alive. We do, we have, and we always will take tremendous pride in calling this piece of paradise our home. Andy was a Bronze Tablet graduate of the University of Illinois in the field of Crop Sciences, following the same path as his father and late grandfather.
It would be misleading for Andy to claim that this life is one that came by chance; rather, as a member of two multi-generational farm families, it was simply in his blood. His passion for agriculture traces back to his early youth--some of his fondest, earliest memories being of days spent riding in the combine with his father and grandfather. Although his understanding of the lifestyle was much less complex in the beginning, the love he has for farming, and its industry has only appreciated through time. As this dream blossomed into adulthood, Andy now works relentlessly, and tirelessly, to chase his own dreams and to build a farming operation of his own alongside his family.
We, as a whole operation, are handymen, electricians, mechanics, landscapers, accountants, economists, caretakers, stewards, and, most importantly, farmers, and we take an incredible amount of pride in our work. There is no challenge too overwhelming, no situation too stressful, and no problem too difficult for us to take on, and we want to take you along with us. Welcome to our farm and welcome to our lives. You have the best seat in the house to watch the everyday chaos of farming unfold--we usually only get concerned when things aren't going wrong!

Thanks for your video! Back when we farmed we did not have all wheel drive tractors or combines. No one had duals on the combine. No tractors or combines or even skid loaders had tracks. We did have duals on our tractors. I bought a new John Deere 4430 and had duals on it as well as all our other tractors. When your combine was stuck you had to dig down and hook on the drive front axle. We usually had to wait for a hard freeze to harvest if it was muddy. Once we didn’t get our crops in until spring! One farmer whose combine was stuck, hooked on the rear steering axle and pulled his combine in two. His combine was a brand new John Deere. He then went home and shot himself. Things were different then!

Not knocking in any way, but we have a set of those ATI high idler tracks, and a set of camoplast triangle tracks on 690’s, the ATI’s are fine until they start to sink, then they turn into a dozer blades and just keep digging deeper instead of pulling back to the top
@aTrippyFarmer
@aTrippyFarmer 2 жыл бұрын
We have not dealt with that issue, but I did hear a few people mention it. They have floated across our mud perfectly fine. However, none of what we farm is "bottomless." You will almost always find footing after a certain point. They definitely do some dozing!

Andy, do you and your Dad have any comments about the set of tracks other than better weight dispersion? More stable? Less header bounce? Maneuverability vs wheels?
@aTrippyFarmer
@aTrippyFarmer 2 жыл бұрын
Obviously they float much better through the mud by dispersing the weight evenly. I feel as though they do waste a little more power than tires, and they are slower going down the road by about 20%. On dry ground, which we found very little of, they do vibrate across any transits paths, which is a non-issue. They are very rough on the road and not as agile. Overall, I would prefer tires nearly every season, but this was a necessary evil.

Why do you not put the 9620R on the grain cart for the extra traction and horsepower needed when the cart sinks in?
@roberturich5346
@roberturich5346 2 жыл бұрын
The compaction caused by the grain cart in such wet conditions is the biggest limitation on it's use in the field under those conditions.
@aTrippyFarmer
@aTrippyFarmer 2 жыл бұрын
The 9620R doesn't have a PTO to run the grain cart auger. The issue is more-so the carts ability to go across the field without leaving a wake behind it, so we are keeping it out of the wet-holes for the sake of soil quality.
@Dian6430

@@aTrippyFarmer thanks for the explanation. So a tracked graincart would have been able to go longer. I did work in America with a JD 9410R with Brent 1594 if i remember correctly. I was able to go for a lot longer than the single and double wheel carts. there the tractor became the limitation.
