I was taught this trick by my dad when i was a teenager but i love that you make these videos to help everyone who didnt have a dad that was mechanically inclined or a good teacher. And you make it very easy to understand. Great video! And man i died laughing with the whole analyzer number stick! All my vehicles have an analyzer number stick in it. It can help with this issue or a starter issue. Theyre great to have!

Excellent video sir! I've seen the "bang your gas tank" approach on many other videos but your emphasis on having the power to the pump on first makes all the difference as you demonstrated with the blower motor. It's one thing being an expert mechanic but teaching to others is another skill entirely and you have it all. I look forward to your other episodes - and I am probably older than you!

Fantastic video... Well done. I learned this one when I was working as a mechanic. A lot of people do not know about the brushes in electric motors. Best to keep a rubber mallet in the vehicle. I watch my millage on all major electronic components, i.e. Alternator and Starter, and change them at their Expected End of Service Life of 100,000 miles. Better to change before they fail, then when you are on vacation.

Just found your channel and enjoy the content. Thank you for your efforts and sharing your knowledge, know how and decades of experience. It's much appreciated and much needed. My high school Auto Tech teacher just passed away, George Wilcox. He's sorely missed. Your vast knowledge and ability to teach reminds me of him. Thank you. Also, you may or may not have an appreciation for Scotty Kilmer, I enjoy his content and his comic relief. We don't need another channel like his, and I'm not suggesting that. I like your style and your content, and look forward to more. I do wonder though if you should study his business model, and how it has brought him success. I believe your style and knowledge has a lot to offer, and could go far if done similar or perhaps even better? Just a thought

We tried this out and it doesn't crank over all the way. Almost. Or if we spray starter fluid in the intake it will rev up for a few seconds and cut out again. We guessing fuel pump isn't powerful enough to send enough fuel. It did turn on when we jumped it. Not sure what else it may be.
@theoldmecanicoshow9004
@theoldmecanicoshow9004 Жыл бұрын
What type of vehicle is it ? About half of the engines have a place to measure fuel pressure. This pressure point has a Schrader valve (like a tire stem) . You can use a small screwdriver to depress the Schrader to see if any fuel comes out. If it runs a few seconds on the spray, it is for sure it is fuel related. Thank you for the view and the question.

@theoldmecanicoshow9004
@theoldmecanicoshow9004 Жыл бұрын
Thank you for the view and the question. A dirty / restricted fuel filter will make the fuel pump work harder (more amps) More amps and the strain of working harder will shorten the life of the pump.

I wish I could tell you exactly what is wrong with your vehicle. Every vehicle is different, real different. Wiring diagrams explain in detail the unique ways each vehicle is laid out. As different as they are, there is THREE THINGS IN COMMON. To make the pump work : 1. HOT/Positive (now) 2. Negative/GRD (now) 3. Good pump (now). I wish I could tell you which part you are missing. Give the year / make / model / engine size and I will check a diagram Thank you for the view and the question.

@@theoldmecanicoshow9004 thanks, however....if it was spark, it should happen randomly even while driving. As in quit running. It should happen when trying to start at -30c. It never does. It has to be up at full temp to happen, and then only starts after sitting about an hour. Then starts no problem.🤔

@@alan4sure It should be easy enough to test and check it off the list. Check the spark when it doesn't run.

@@alan4sure Both the ignition system and the fuel system can have intermittent failures. That means the problem comes and goes. The engine is the only part that is not intermittent. Once it has a problem, it does not go away. Thank you for the views and the questions. I appreciate it.

The Best way to overcome the # 1 reason DC motors fail, is worn electrical sliding "Brushes". Three things needed : positive voltage Now / negative voltage Now / Vibration. Thank you for the view and the question. Good Luck my You Tube Friend.

Thank you for the question. I want to help you. A few questions first: When was the last time it ran ? Did it just suddenly not start one day? Was it driving and then just turn off. No spark is almost always the crank sensor.

@@philliphubbard9576 If the security light is blinking with the key in the on position, you have a problem with the security system. You will need more than an average code reader, because you need to read the Body codes. If the security light is on steady with the key on, you have an ignition problem. Your vehicle has an ignition module and a crank sensor that will cause no spark / no start. The module is EZ to replace (EZ to get to / cost about $50 / cheaper if you get on-line) The crank sensor is a bit more difficult to get to. Some of the auto parts stores can test your module. I would do that first. Good luck.

How do you hit a fuel pump that's inside a 25 gallon gas tank
@theoldmecanicoshow9004
@theoldmecanicoshow9004 Жыл бұрын
Hello David. Banging on the bottom of the tank can cause enough vibration to get the pump to work. I have done it with successfully a 100 times. (probably 500 try's). I remember doing it in front of an audience (15 students) during a shop demonstration with success . That was the best times. Thank you for the view and the question.

Thank you for the question. I hope I can answer your question. It's called "Fuel Pump Priming". This is for most normal operating vehicle( not broken car) As so as the key is turned to the on position, the fuel pump should start to operate . AS the key is turned to the start position, the pump should say on. If you turn the key ONLY to the on position, average pumps should operate about 3-6 seconds. Every vehicle is different.

The fuel pump is inside the fuel tank. The fuel tank should be close to where you put the gas in. You will probably have to lay on the ground to see and hit the tank. Good Luck.
