Great video about emergency systems and redundancies. Nowadays the lifeboat situation on the Titanic and other large liners of the time seems ridiculous, but the Lifeboats were not meant to hold every passenger on board. Open rowing boats with little provisions and no radio, they would have no chance of surviving in the North Atlantic anyway. Their purpose was to ferry passengers to nearby vessels, something that was demonstrated by the sinking of the RMS Reepublic in 1903.

The Fukushima earthquake and tsunami taught us that you can't have the generators at sea level or at nominal sea level. It has to be much higher, just because of unforeseen wave-action or mountain run off. Position of the generator in addition to the type of generator, the fuel, where the fuel is stored, how you're going to connect it with systems, and who's going to operate it all are based on what screwed up in the past. sadly "you" only get one chance to get it right.

Good vid mate. Much appreciated. Should I quit my sea-going job and apply at the local utility grid company? What do you prefer? I get paid well at sea....but I've always been curious about lifestyle at lower salary but more time at home....

Emergency Generator, 3/E job onboard ship to maintain it. but all crew must know to start it manually as well
