Hahaha you guys are going to love this vlog. Very excited for you to watch it! Edit: I just wanna remind y’all that it’s okay to not enjoy a particular rotation or field/specialty. In no way am I throwing shade at this field, it’s just my take on it and it’s not for me! If it were, I would’ve applied into the field. 😌

Of course you got so much autonomy! You absolutely RADIATE competence, you're honest about your skills, and even when you're not pumped for the rotation you find something to learn and enjoy. You are the best kind of student! Well done!!

During my nursing clinical rotations, I felt completely out of my comfort zone in the ER. Within 20 minutes of stepping on the floor, I knew that this was not for me. Controlled chaos everywhere…

I just finished my 3rd semester out of 5 for my BSN program & we completed both OB/postpartum & pediatrics! I honestly went into this semester scared for OB /postpartum & didn't think I'd like it at all because I'd never held a baby in my life, lol! Now, I'm completely in love with OB/NICU, & want to really pursue NICU nursing (coming into the program I thought I was set on ED) once I graduate next Dec! I get to spend a day in the ED for shadowing next semester, but I was in love with everything related to NICU (it's still chaos, but I think is probably way more predictable chaos than ED 😂) so I may change my mind, but am not expecting to.

I don’t know much about self harm, but I do know that alot of what we do that hurts ourselves whether it’s labeled as self harm or not is a kind of pain we can control in response to pain we can’t (or think we can’t)… I’ve known alot of people who have had struggles of all kinds around self harm and although each person is unique and complex I do know that getting through to people can seem impossible and I do think the first part of any change is empathy without judgement even in the face of struggle and even if you don’t understand. I think to connect with others pain, even if it’s not the same kind of pain, they have to be able to empathize with your pain. And we all feel pain. Both people have to see each other and be willing to and on both sides that is a deeply brave act and I’m proud of you for trying to get through to people and care as much as I’m proud of people who let those who want to help in. That may not be the deepest comment on a really complex topic, but I hope it makes sense and I hope people who are confronting these issues on either side know how courageous they are. It’s hard to get through to yourself or to others letalone for us to get through to each other. I think when we are struggling and we are finally able to really reach each other it can feel like everything before that moment was a bad dream. The moment you get through is the start of change.

It's funny, because if I did ever go into medicine (and I've thought about becoming a paramedic a few times but my body tends to...injure itself a lot, I'm dealing with a possible meniscus tear after a rotator cuff tear last year and it's a physical job), I'd love to go into emergency medicine. There's immediate need and a problem, a bit of a puzzle to solve sometimes, and you're helping people in a high deal of distress. I'm better in high stress situations like that with a fast paced environment.

I used to be a nurse assistant in the ED and all the patients that would show up that were OB we would just call the OB unit and tell them that they have a patient coming, and we would just take them up to the unit, and that's it. We never kept OB patients in the ED. LOL 😂

I'm finishing up EM this month and even though the residents were so nice, I legit despise it. Get me back in the FM clinic 😭 I like stable patients. I don't like making minute to minute decisions that could impact whether someone lives or dies. I hate the long wait time and lack of follow up for things that should be taken care of by a PCP half the time (though I understand the long appt time is what drives them there). I can't do preventive medicine which is what I'm passionate about. And so much death. So much. 🙃 No thanks. On the plus side though I convinced the residents to not be afraid to do a pelvic exam in the ED since I had to do two of them 😂

Does ER help at all if you receive a patient with an illness after we stabilize them and send them to OB pregnant. In terms of understanding like their both internal medicine treatment and the effects it could have on OB and could someone who comes in septic and pregnant their sepsis treatment determine how you treat the babies

Question-when you do rotations, do the attending doctors report what you do to the school? Like evaluate you? Also, what was the brand of sheets you got?
@kaitlynkilpatrick36
@kaitlynkilpatrick36 Жыл бұрын
Idk about Rachel but at my med school, usually we pick a senior resident or attending we spent the most time with and they fill out an online form sent to their email and it gets factored into our grade. For my school, evals for core rotations are 50% of your grade and for electives it is your entire grade.

Why isn’t a hand surgeon suturing the hand laceration?
@josephdahdouh2725
@josephdahdouh2725 Жыл бұрын
She started practicing suturing since literally M1 year, so she is probably as qualified as the minimally trained surgeon. Plus, I doubt all surgeons are capable of getting to the patient since most are probably at home or in operation of much more deadly operations, and the hand could have been further damaged if left open to the environment, other then the fast that the more it takes for the suture to occur, the greater risk of nosocomial(hospital acquired) infection, which would result in many many many more complications. So, based on the timing, and this med-stundet's experties(she is literally going into residency after this last rotation), she is well-capable of performing these surgeries. And practice is very important. Nevertheless, I do agree that the attending was neglectful for not attending+observing Rachel do the suturing
