I luv Emile's videos! I counter cantered first time and was perfectly done...horse responded correctly. With Emile's basic instruction I was able to follow his direction...Awesome!

Wonderful exercise. simple and easy to help. Thanks.

hossam mosbah You can also take advantage of the horse having a tendency to travers himself in canter. So you canter him on the lead with his heavy side on the inside. That way you don’t have to mess around with counter canter, which is difficult to achieve even with a straight horse.

Omg I was so confused cause it took me so long to figure out he was saying counter canter I though he said “canter canter” And was so baffled

Me too. What is counter canter?
@danielabackstrom3 жыл бұрын
@@silky2204 counter canter is when the horse goes in the "wrong" canter lead for that rein. For example that the horse canters in the right lead on the left rein :)

That is a fabulous exercise for my FEI horse! Do you have exercises for a 3 year old who is crooked on one side in the canter ?
@BreakerBarney3 жыл бұрын
The horse is 3. I wouldn’t worry about straightness yet. Look at the scales of training. Straightness comes later

Are there any exercises for a young horse who is not yet able to perform counter canter?

My new horse needs to learn this too.

I wish he would explain what exactly he means with "riding a horse in shoulder-fore is just a way of riding a crooked horse straight". That's so confusing. I always thought that putting a horse in a shoulder-fore position is part of straightening the horse, especially in canter.

I agree. I have a horse that leans onto the right rein in all gaits, but especially canter. I have been working shoulder in to encourage the left hind leg to come more under and the right shoulder to work more and encourage straightness. So now I will try the counter canter and see if this helps. Phew...:)

But let's say the horse finds cantering very difficult, how do you then straighten your horse
@claudiablancosuarezdelvill37466 жыл бұрын
Marrit Brouwer he may need to develop muscle and learn to keep his balance first! Raised trot poles work wonders for that

Try working over cavalleties in trot to build strength through the abdominals and hence the back. Then move onto repetitions of small amounts of trot to canter on the flat, building up to more canter gradually to build strength and endurance. :)
